Title: NGS Era 1 and 2 Group?
Post by: JimF on June 26, 2015, 03:52:21 PM
Has the above NGS Group died? Has anyone heard or seen anything from it, recently?

I contacted Jeremy Bellows, the contact person for the group, a year ago this past April, and sent in a application.

Have not had any further contact, and never see it mentioned on this forum or the yahoo N Gauge group.

Just wondering.

Note: I have also posted this on the yahoo group, as I know there are folks who are not on both it and this forum.

last time I had a newsletter was Dec. 2013.... think I saved 8(newsletters)somewhere..
Never seen anything in the journal either about this group, but then, I'm not a member for very long.
Maybe it's a lack of news/material for a newsletter  :-\

I also emailed Jeremy Bellows last year, but have never received a response. It's a shame as even my own layout, which is set in 1930, is largely a pre-grouping layout in grouping colours.

According to the NGS Newsletter 3/15 the contact for Era 1 & 2 is Jeremy Burrows
mail address jbmountainleader@googlemail.com

Maybe this might help you contact him

Thanks. Just checked my emails from then,, that is the name and email address I used. Bellows was just my mistake.

I asked about this on the Yahoo group, had one reply. That person had not heard anything since October 2013, when he got his last newsletter.

I think the group is most likely defunct.

I thought I'd read about the group on here before, but it turns out to be a thread from a year ago by you!  ;D  http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=21118.msg216038#msg216038 (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=21118.msg216038#msg216038)

Perhaps the NGS Committee members know what may have happened to the group?

Tank, not long after I asked, last year, I got away from N gauge, and then modelling altogether for some time, due to life issues. So I thought I would ask again, in the vain hope maybe it had risen again. Guess not :)

As requested I have asked the Area Groups Co Ordinator and the Committee to find out what we can. Unfortunately however if Mr Burrows is not available for contact for whatever reason this may take a little time, so apologies in advance.

As a matter of interest, how many forum members model Era 1 and/or 2; I model the SR 1930s (Era3) and find that enough of a a challenge in terms of stock non-availability.

I'm modelling 1930 rather than the 1930s, and am finding that perhaps half or more of everything I could or will run is either pre-Grouping or early Grouping (effectively pre-Grouping work that hasn't been superceded yet). It will mean a lot of coach conversions/upgrades, quite a few wagon kits to build, and lots of older locos - the older the better!

Hi all - the Era 1 & 2 group hasn't died; but it has ben hibernating a little due to my own other commitments.

When I originally established the group I asked for volunteers to share the work of running it; but the sum total of responses I got to that plea can be counted on the thumbs of one foot. So when I'm not able to give it my attention, nothing gets done.

A (long overdue) newsletter is about to go out to everyone whose membership forms I have, provided they still use the e-mail address they gave me. If you have sent me a membership form and have not received the next newsletter by the end of July, please e-mail me and I'll get a copy out to you.

I'm glad you remain interested in pre-grouping modeling - it really is the most exciting, vibrant of all modeling periods, and more people should give it a go.

Kind regards,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy. Thanks for the response. At least we know you're still alive and kicking! Out of interest, what kind of work is involved in running a group?

I haven't sent a membership form, just an email to ask about joining the group. That's a kind of pre-membership-form stage, I suppose.

Not a huge amount, Pete -

Compiling the newsletter (including reviewing and editing submissions from members, writing additional copy, typing it all up etc. etc.)

Responding to membership enquiries and other correspondence

Receiving membership forms and checking that they are from valid NGS members

Maintaining the membership database

Maintaining the archive of old newsletters and sending them to new members if they wish to have them

Sending the newsletter out to all members on the membership database when it is ready to be sent

That's what I've been doing, anyway ... and it all takes time.

Well that doesn't sound so bad. If you could divide some of it then that's time halved... or at least reduced a touch. I'll PM you.
