Title: Warranty work
Post by: georgehgv on June 25, 2015, 07:50:22 AM
Just like to gather your opinions on the Manufacturers Warranty policies.

I have just had returned the second locomotive I had to send to Bachmann, both under Warranty both repaired free of charge, no explanation of what had gone wrong, just a brief listing of what had been done. But most annoying as far as I am concerned it has cost me over £4 to send it back , despite request to reimburse my cost of postage no response.

Dapol on the other hand through DCC Supplies email a prepaid label and all numbered up for free repair.

How do I get my postage back from Bachmann?

Am I unreasonable expecting them to pay to remedy their fault?

Should I contact the online Retailer, get them to arrange collection and let them pay to get it to Bachmann? This would take ages longer and cost more as two postage costs would be incurred by someone.

The products should not be faulty anyway and if tested should be fit for purpose.

Rant over, comments gratefully received.

As your contract is with the retailer and not Bachmann ... ... ...  ;)

No, that's not unreasonable, but this is done via the retailer who should be the first port of call, as that's who's legally responsible for sorting out problems with purchases, as Mike rightly says.

The only model I've ever had failed from new was returned to the retailer who paid the return postage and replaced the model. Presumably the failed one then went back to Bachmann where it would have been sold off cheap as a return or scrapped for spares.

Dapol seem to point folk to sending to DCC supplies (I'm not sure the legality of this - folk can equally return to their retailer), and DCC will send out pre-paid post (presumably at Dapol's expense) to get the model there. This seems to work fine too.
