Title: Squeaky coach - run in or maintain?
Post by: Ancient Hermit on June 15, 2015, 11:31:30 PM
Hi all,

Over the last few weeks I've bought 3 Collet Maroon Dapol coaches.

Two of them seem fine but the third one appears to have a slight squeak develop after running for a few minutes. As far as I  can tell it does not squeak from cold, but after a little bit of running.

So, do I maintain it and if so then how, or do they need running in? :hmmm:

Should I just be grateful that it saves me buying in to DCC sound?  ;)

I've never had coaches, so this just never came up before.  ;D

Hi Ian. Presumably it squeaks from one of the axles or the bogie pin?
If an axle, then remove the offending axle set and use a soft graphite pencil and gently scrape some graphite into the axle cup. Replace the offending axle and that should fix the issue. Similarly, take some graphite shavings and rub them around the pin socket for the bogie (having removed the pin first), then replace. Again, that should fix.
Hope this helps, cheers, Bill.

:thankyousign:

I suspect from the modulation it must be the axle rather than the bogie pin on this one, however it may get to keep it's squeak due to poor eyesight and big old hands.  ::)

I'll see if I can get a better look to determine if I could even attempt removal, lube and replacement. :hmmm:

I think I might explore Farish for the next set of coaches if this is Dapol's current hit rate for QC. Oh well. not the end of the world I guess.  ;)

Thanks very much for the info!  :)

Worked for a bit, but the stuff fell out again. So I took the executive decision to let it have a small amount of Dapoil from a needle point. No more squeaking!

Been nice so far and it's been hours!  :)
