Title: Lobster Pots
Post by: port perran on June 07, 2015, 09:27:29 AM
I would very much like some lobster pots for Trepol Bay.
I know that in reality they will be tiny but a representation will do so does anyone know if someone out there makes and sells them?
Failing that, any suggestion for making them (or something that represents a pile of them)?

could you wind some cotton round a small metal bar  and then spray with matt varnish to set in place, then remove the bar? Just wondered if you could build up an impression of some that way.

Wondering if the tips of cocktail sticks, filed off slightly at the apex, might be about the right size/shape? Certainly cheap!

The tricky bit will be painting them a sort of speckled colour to mimic the mesh.

Cheers, NeMo

They are just about exactly what I'm after.
Thanks for that. If you have any left, I would be interested.
If not I'll order some direct from the States.

Top entry lobster pots are about 3' in diameter, so a 6mm circle for the base. Circumference is about 19mm.

You could glue a 20mm strip of open wire mesh (holes about 1mm or so) around the circumference of the base. Make the mesh 10mm high and then fold the top edge into the middle and push it down all the way round to form the top entry with the final pot height about 5-6mm.

You could use a 6mm tube (drinking straw or brass tube) to form the mesh and push the top edge down into the tube, glue and then attach to the base.

One good thing is that real lobster pots are not regular or uniform, so this method might just work.
