Don't panic mods - this ISN'T about a lot of handsome men wearing just a pair of tight shorts! :-[
I know there are some lady modellers on this site and I was wondering if you have similar problems to the men regarding your husbands/partners?
A common thread in most posts is "keeping SWMBO happy" and her 'support' (or otherwise) for a particular layout or project, but we never hear much from the ladies about their problems in this area.
Is this because you have no problems (we men being so understanding of your hobby ), simply because you don't post enough to bring the problem to notice (a shame if that is the reason) or something else?
This really is my idle curiosity at work, but a serious question all the same.
Maybe they don't feel the need to keep harping on about it like some of the poor hard-done-by men do? ;) :D

Yep, just get on with the job. ;)
I've been interested in railways since the age of three so my husband knew what he was letting himself in for. Like most reasonable partners he has no problem with my hobby as long as it doesn't make too much mess and take over the whole house. Model railways undergoing construction can look really messy.
I think it's because he has his own hobby, cars which he and my son used to work on and race until it became too expensive. If you think model railways are expensive try motor racing!!
I think it really helps if your better half has their own or the same hobby, I've always been a bit suspicious of people that have absolutely no hobbies.
A friend of mine has a model shop and he's had customers coming in saying "I'm getting married and I have to sell all my trains because my fiance won't let me have them in the house" That doesn't bode well for a happy marriage.
As far as model railway shopping goes, I've always been very careful, if I can afford it I buy it, if not I wait.

We get people in the car club doing the same, "have to sell the car cos other half says it costs too much" - then 3 years later when they've split up they come back moaning that they wish they hadn't sold ;)
I've always said that as long as the bills are paid then anything left is split 50/50 to spend on whatever we wish

I agree with Paul, but when I got married I said to the wife "What's yours is mine and what's mine is my own!" No, seriously, share and share alike. My wife encourages me to take her to model exhibitions and often buys me bits for the layout.

Thanks for the reply. Like you I have been a model (and real) enthusiast for a long time, since childhood, and I agree with you here. If you can't accept your partner's long term hobbies it doesn't look good for the future.
My Marion loves painting as a hobby but one day when I suggested she pick up a 4" brush and made a start on the kitchen ceiling :veryangry:.
She reminded me very firmly that she was into painting landscapes etc. :sorrysign:
After all I was only trying to take an interest in her hobby.
If my husband was interested in model railways then I would have DCC with all the bells and whistles because he's very good at electronics. He'd want a high speed train as well. :D

We compromised John. I called in a friend who is a professional painter.

Clare is actually better at finding scenic bits at shows than I am

I have been very lucky lately as Val and my son Glenn go skiing theve been to France twice this year and are members at at Hemel Hempstead ski Center she has allowed me more spending money for my railway ,she has even ordered the Popylino for me which will be this years Christmas present and next years birthday present from all the family so I hope Ben and Mike can keep to the expected delivery date of March next year I have great faith they will not like other firms no names no pack drill who you have to wait years and years for something to arrive or give up hoping altogether.
I've got no interest in skiing and Val has now no interest in model railways although she helped me build the first layout after we got married 33 years ago.
And I wouldn't change her for the world .

I'm hoping to persuade her at some point. We are not at that stage yet though.
