Well it's been four weeks since the storm and still being given the run around by the insurer.
Anyway can't wait forever so started to replace some stuff
A bargain WD and the dapol milk train pack have been my first two purchases. They also double up as my birthday presents in a few weeks

do you have a financial regulator in Oz who can give them the heavy
treatment?
Yeah, they look for every tiny loophole they can wriggle through to avoid giving money away. But it's great to hear you're getting started again, Bart. :thumbsup:

As for your insurance company behaviour, this is par for the course. Just keep at them - when all else fails then you can threaten them with the ombudsman or public disclosure. Who is your insurer by the way?

Great news.
they are covering my locos which im happy and have noted the other items(that i said were ok) i have mentioned is case they fail later.
As the main box shifters did not want to offer a discount im shopping elsewhere

Great news that you're restocking, even if it's only the very beginning. Despite everything that's happened it may in a strange way be quite enjoyable to eventually buy loads of train things!
Good luck with the insurer, this is when you find out if they're any good or not. And at renewal time you have the option of going elsewhere if they prove wanting, the one sanction us "little people" can take easily against "The Man".
Hi all
Got a call this afternoon as they stated last Friday. A great assessor and everything is sorted. They are doing the train stuff straight so I can beat the dapol increase which is fantastic and the guy really explain it all in simple terms. He said all of my house contents sim will be honoured as I sent in around 100 photos and a detailed list incl serial numbers. I know it's not the same but they are even going to cover my wedding I lost on the day!
And when it was being handle by their general claims section I had to travel 50km to get the whitegoods and almost 200 km to go to the shop replacing the tools etc but since it's with their specialist claims section they have approved it for me to shop locally for the replacement items
Totally relieved!
Now I just hope the building assessment on Wednesday goes smoothly

Glad everything's getting sorted you'll soon be up and running a service to all the population on your layout ,I hope they didn't all drown but you rescued some.
Make sure you save some money to put in measures to prevent this happening again.

Thanks everyone. Sadly bob I think it was one of those once in a lifetime events! I don't think even Noah's ark would have been safe. It was really weird. I have never experienced that much heavy rain for so long. It was later classed as a cat 2 or 3 cyclone I think. These things are supposed to only occur in North Queensland.
It was almost like where you see homes hit and missed by tornadoes in the USA. Our house was hit, next for was worse, next one up not a drop but then across from that house a right off!
Any the insurer guy even had a laughter when he was going through the photos when he saw what I did to protect the house from the storm event that was predicted to hit around midnight that same day(lucky for us tracked south and just caught the edge of it), I taped up the garage doors with big wide venal tape, had cut up the pool cover to make home made levees against the house front with sandbags made from pillow cases and the good old Dennis fire truck was put to good use.
Anyway I must be off just got home from work, a four hour trip thanks to late running trains family are all in bed so might do a bit of therapy shopping over a cuppa

I very much believe that poor performance by insurance providers should be named and shamed and of course good performance should be equally reported. When I come to renew my various types of insurance (car, house, medical) every year, I would like to know of any experience good or bad that people have had with the myriad providers. Same applies to manufacturers of model railway gear. How else do we consumers apply pressure for improved performance in our capitalist society?

I wholeheartedly agree with that, however some companies can get very funny about discussing ongoing claims on the internet and it isn't worth jeopardising the result in my opinion. Once it's all settled however any criticism/recommendation will be welcome :thumbsup:
