Title: Movement of Wagons
Post by: UPINSMOKE on May 16, 2015, 03:30:53 PM
I was just wondering would you find other regions wagons within the southern region. The reason I ask is I have just acquired a job lot of wagons including GW, NE, LMS, etc and as I predominately model Southern Region was wondering if wagons from the above would ever have been found amongst SR ones. If not then I will be moving them on to fund other purchases. Any help would be appreciated.

Wagons from all the other companies would be seen on all the othes' tracks. Just been looking at a photo at Dover with SR, LNWR, LMS wagons side by side. You may need to be a Facebook Group member to view it.

Definitely, if you are modelling that era, wagon related anything can be seen.  Not so brake vans, like do not have a GW Toad style brake as even in BR days they were hated by the non WR regions.

This link describes how many company wagons were treated as "common user" between them.

The era might be a problem, if the wagons are marked GW,NE LMS etc they are in pre-war livery and not post nationalisation.

I read somewhere recently that by the mid 30s you could expect a goods train to consist 50% of vehicles belonging to the company in that region and 50% a mix of vehicles from the other big three, excluding private owner wagons.
