Although Nurses should really be praised and appreciated every day, perhaps today anyone who comes into contact with a Nurse should show their appreciation to them, by being nice and understand that they have a very difficult and tiring job to do.
My wife is a nurse of some 30 years experience, and the amount of times she's come home from work (She works in a dementia home) and informs me that she's been 'attacked' (I use the term lightly here) by a resident and shows me the scratches and bruises on her arms, and then been verbally attacked by the residents family, I just cannot believe that she gets up the next morning and goes back to do the same thing again. Her response when I ask why - "Because I love it"!!!! ??? ???
Really!!!! I couldn't stand there and let some pillock rant and rave at me, because the home doesn't think that their relative is the most important person in that home, and they are paying for their relative to have the best treatment. But she does and she's brilliant at it, after 2 mins of standing there, she takes the relative by the arm, guides them to the café, gets them a cup of tea and talks to them, amazing!!! Me, I'd have lamped them and told them to 'Foxtrot Oscar' if they don't like it.
So please be upstanding, raise your mug of tea/coffee and I give you.....Nurses...

Having dated over the years, shall we say, more than one nurse and having married one at one stage of my life, I fully endorse everything Neal has said and would apply this to anyone working in the care community. My eldest sister works in a care home and most folks just wouldn't believe the treatment she gets from the residents and their relatives.
My wife is a peadiatric peedeatric padeatric children's nurse who now works in the community and there's no way I could do her job as the uniform wouldn't fit, I've tried. Seriously though, she has done most types of children's nursing both in the community, at several hospitals and including pallative care. She has often come home both close to and also in tears with lots of very sad tales but as Neal says, she goes back day after day. She must be mad but here's to the nurses and carers too :beers:
