Title: Skype hassles
Post by: Dorsetmike on May 08, 2015, 07:34:45 PM
Just had an email from Skype saying I must update buttons; since microsloth took Skype over things have gone downhill, I'm looking at alternatives, found this site with a few suggested options, has anybody got experience of any of the possibles. Tox looks a likely candidate as does ICQ, the others look as though they are more like farcebook clones.

On Firefox there is a conversation button that sets up a video link,
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/hello/ (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/hello/)
I have not used it so cannot comment on how well it works.

Cheers Tony

Google hangouts? I was just investigating video callling apps myself.

My issue with videocalling is they are all app specific. Skype to skype, facetime to facetime, hangouts to hangouts. Having to have a load of different accounts to accomodate other friends and family with different hardware and operating systems. I look forward to being able to use cross app services. It's like only being able to call mobiles on your network

I'm not bothered about video, I mostly use text and file exchange, occasionally voice (when I get my earphones & mic unpacked) I also like to see which of my contacts is on line.
