G'day All, as I work at plonking down some details on Sadler's Sidings I have purchased some N scale Pallets, Ratio and MicroEngineering.
To give myself some background I researched pallet sizes and came up with the following results:
Australian Standard Pallets (from Wikipedia): 1165x1165 mm
There is also a second Australian standard (called an export pallet for use in ISO Series 1 freight containers): 1100mm × 1100mm
Euro-pallet (from Wikipedia): 1200×800mm
North American Pallet (from CHEP site): 1219x1016mm
(A late addition)
British Pallets: 1200x1000mm
I have also become aware that there are variations in pallet sizes according their intended use, eg. chemicals in drums.
In the model world, the two brands of pallets I bought scaled up to the equivalent real world sizes of:
Ratio N Scale pallet (1:150 scale): 1650x1350mm
Micro Engineering (1:160): 1280x1120mm
As Sadler's Sidings is essentially Australian in setting I am aiming for the 2 Australian sizes. Micro Engineering come close and once I have found our digital camera I will post photos of how I have worked on them.
The Ratio pallets are a bit on the large size, to put it politely. Any ideas what standard they are meant to be? I have already modified two to be close to Australian 1:160 standard size and given the above missing camera situation being resolved I will reveal my efforts.
Don't think of me as an absolute rivet counter, but in my modelling I do try get stuff as close as practical to scale.

I always work on the principle that it is better for it to look right, than to be right.
Personally I would compare your model palletts to the figures you have on your layout, the longest side of the pallet should come to about neck height on the figure.
