I started stripping some mk.1 bodyshells last night for some of Adam's vinyls, using T-cut applied with cotton buds.
plenty of elbow grease required as well, but when I tried using ordinary kitchen towel I found the paint came off much more easily, why I don't know, and I got both sides of a carriage done in less time than it took to do one side with the cotton buds.
just thought it might be of use to someone.

Just be careful not to apply too much pressure to kitchen towels so as not to smear the clear plastic. Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner works well on the paint too, with the coach body in a plastic tray with a lid or a plastic bag, coat in Mr Muscle and leave for an hour or two, then wipe off any remaining paint with kitchen towel or a sponge pad.
I tend to use Cotton Wool balls with Brasso for stripping Coaches, it only seems to take a few minutes either side.

I use the same method as Chris only after taking out of the oven cleaner I use an old toothbrush and luke warm soapy water to clean the item, Mr Muscle is great but don't use a Caustic Oven Cleaner though because it can be to savage.

I agree with OLB. Following Chris's suggestion on another thread, I tried Mr Muscle having in the past struggled with brasso and silvio. Mr Muscle is far far easier.

I agree on mr muscle, I recently used it to strip some transrail 37s, and leaving the mr m on the shells for about three qurters of an hour allowed me to strip the logos and numbers off, leaving me pristine trainload triple grey ready for new sector logos.
however I have found myself that even when left soaking for some time, the base paint does not come off, which is why I tried T-cut on the body shells.
I'm a brasso fan - I use a surplus plastic box (Dapol currently) and put the brasso in to a depth of a couple of mm and then put two coaches in for a few minutes, turn and then wipe. Repeat as necessay - I have also found that you can have another two in while wiping the first two depending on the length of train. I am getting ready to do The Royal Train so 9 coaches to do - probably starting tonight.
Whats the best way to strip modern coaches? I'm after stripping some of the mk1 pullmans
Cotton wool dipped in Acetone Free Nail Polish Remover, then rub carefully on the carriage paint... easiest way is just to spray over with a fine plastic primer though and then repaint :)
cheers for that, didn't want the lettering underneath showing through (presumed it would) so may just try spraying the bodyshell then
