if anyone has one of these, either made or still in kit form, is there any chance they could measure the superstructure footprint for me please ?
can't find the one I was sure I had in my stash, and I nee to know if I can use the superstructure from this to make a more modern superstructure for the LSM in McBraynes service.
Rule 1 rules of course :)
much appreciated if anyone can help.
cheers

Don't have one , but if you google it there is a downloadable instruction sheet with
exploded diagrams, also plans of the boat, might be possible to calculate the
dimensions as the length and breadth of the original are mentioned.
got that up at the moment, might need to go down that road.

Amazon says its dimensions are Product Dimensions 17.3 x 7.8 x 16.6 cm

cheers for that, guess that's the overall l x w x h
I think I'll adjust the drawing on screen to equal length of 17.3, then I can measure the length and width of the actual superstructure......
:hmmm: that should work, yes ?
cheers

That would probably give a good idea of the size, the kit plans look
fairly businesslike.
:hmmm:
now if I've done it all right .........
beam of LSM = 11m
vehicle deck min width = 6m
width of tug superstructure = 8m
distance between funnels at rear of superstructure = 5m
so it looks as though I'd be ok for the width of the superstructure, with a walkway either side on the main deck, but the problem would be the funnels.
they'd need to fit with the inside edge in line with the wall of the vehicle deck, so WHEN I find mine, I'll need to see if I can somehow mod the funnels to sit further outboard in relation to the main superstructure.
working with Tomytec artics, they stand 1m + higher than the sides of the vehicle deck, but I have already decided to fit a 'wall' along the top of the vehicle deck walls, to stop seas which break on deck flowing down into the vehicle deck, and I'm hoping that this, together with the height of the tunnel in to tug's superstructure, will give me the clearance I need for the trucks. the tunnel, which I assume is to allow the cable from the bow mounted winch to deploy astern as well, will need to be widened to match the width of the vehicle deck.
well, that's the plan, anyway.
if you see any glaring errors in my plan, PLEASE say.

Hi there,
Be careful if scaling from Amazon dimensions, often these are the size of the packaging, not the actual product inside.
cheers

If you put in "Fairplay i ASD" into google and hit images there's a profile pops up about 2/3rds down the page. You should be able to start scaling dimensions off that. There's probably more dwgs out there also.

made my workings from the data on the instructions PDF, ie loa 25m beam 11.2m, hence the measurements being in metres in my post.
thought that was the safest way, using my scale rule as well to transfer measurements to the LSM.
thanks for the warning anyway.

I am really pleased you mentioned this new kit. I wasn't aware of its existence before.
The box clearly states the length of the model as 17.9cm. There is a short illustrated review of the kit here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234967912-harbour-tug-boat-fairplay-1144-revell/ (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234967912-harbour-tug-boat-fairplay-1144-revell/)
Nice to see a new kit almost to N scale - the older kit they do of an American tug is 1:108 scale, which looks way too large.
