Hi all, just seen on the 'other forum' that Dapol has released pictures of it's EP A4 with full valances. This will be a first for N gauge, I just hope that the EP to product phase doesn't take forever!

finally!
looks like they've done a good job, lets hope they will be out soon :D
Better late than never. A pitty they didn't do it when they did their limited edition members only silver link.
Looks like they've simplified the valve gear to cope.
Cheers,
Alan
Very nice, will be interesting to see which liveries come out.
Its a nice looking model but I've always preferred the A4 without the valances. I guess that's because I grew up watching A4s without valances thundering through Hornsey, Wood Green, New Barnet and other Southern East Coast main line stations in my teens. - Aghh... Sigh of nostalgia and back to my pint while watching Bittern going round my test track!!

It does indeed Al. With the wheels in that position the rod and crank should be visible.
Can't wait for these :heart2: :bounce:
First thing I'm going to do is make it dirty
This looks great. Thanks for posting. Will definitely get one, in no rush though. :claphappy:

Those who purchased the Modellbahn Union limited edition of this model will be rather dischuffed that they are now re-running this as a regular issue.

Would the valances have survived into the late crest era? I fancy a bit of Woodcock... :sorrysign:
Nope; stripped in the War ...
I understand from readings that they were stripped for ease of maintainance (was that true?), but after the war while most continued that way (including those I saw in the Carlisle backwater of their domain) woz none of the 'prestige' locos on the east coast returned to full dress ?
Ummm, prob a silly question cos in the 50-60s there was not a lot of prestige about steam anyway ! !
Aside to austinbob - sadly all those I saw thundered nowhere, they just crept about and lurked into Canal shed via Waverly :( ! EDIT oh sorry, didnt spot that Bob commented in Jan
Epitaph : but I loved my Dublo "Sir Nigel Gresley" thank you Frank, it is still in the attic somewhere :)

No, never in revenue earning service subsequent to their removal during the war. Only later in preservation were some re-adorned.
Cheers,
Alan
I'm just hoping the Blue Mallard will be museum spec (albeit mobile)

Nope... The one just released is UN-valenced BR Blue... However I'm sure a LNER Garter Blue 4468 will be among the first few batches of the Valenced version whenever they arrive...

Well the date from Dapol suggest similar to the Un-valenced versions, August 2015 for those and 3rd quarter 2015 for the valenced.
Even though I'm an LMS fan I have always liked the valanced A4, maybe one may make it into my non LMS fleet.................. then of course I would need some suitable coaches....................

Wensleydale of course... :P
well there are only 2 valanced A4s i would be getting, 1 would be mallard (has to be done) and then another for Bittern
Any chance of a 3d print of the 1907 dynamometer car to accompany the almost inevitable Mallard? But where to get the Coronation coaches? Will Bill Bedford's 2mm scale etches work in N?

I'd be game to try the Dynamometer Car at some point. In regard to the Coronation coaches, that observation car would be difficult (only in regard to how to model the end window!).
A Silver Jubilee set on the other hand... :heart2:

I think you'd get away with the 2mm etches for both. I have pondered it but don't have time to do the work, however I think a polished 3D shell with the Bill Bedford sides glued on would probably work out pretty well.
Alan
Great to hear that you are willing to think about a 3d print dynamometer car Steve. It was working on one of your pigeon vans that got me thinking that printing would be a great way to render the subject. I hadn't thought about a 3d print of the Coronation, which would be a huge project.
My interest (speaking selfishly) is Mallard's record breaking train, which did not I think include an observation car, and my current plan is to build Bill Bedford's etches. I have a ton of other projects to get to first! Using Bill's etches with a polished printed shell is an ingenious idea. Does anyone know how compatible these 2mm etches are with N gauge Dapol bogies?

Kick starter job ?
"Someone needs to find the time" job. Bill's done all the etches as I understand it so the hard stuff is done.
properly excited for these! when I was younger I saved all my pocket money to buy the valenced Mallard in BR blue, this was in 00 gauge, now I've made the move to the 'proper' gauge  i need to get these!
I want a silver one :) full beavertail rake would be nice as well :)

Is there any sign yet of the valanced A4s Dapol promised for the third quarter of this year? I've not seen or heard anything.
I see that Gaugemaster have Sir Nigel in stock. I must say I'm tempted as I have a video of the prototype in Derby ca. 1970

this i think will not be the valanced verson though steve, its another rerun of the unvalanced ones i think, as far as im aware they are still waiting on a painted prototype which we would see in one of dapols display cases at an exhibition before long, possibly TINGS.

You're probably right, but as the original had its valences removed when I saw it it wouldn't be an issue for me, but I can understand the appeal of an A4 in its original guise.
