Title: N Gauge British Lorries
Post by: NeilMac on October 31, 2011, 01:56:26 PM
B-T Models (formerly Base Toys) are to release some of their 1/76 scale lorries in 1/148 scale, starting with the Leyland/BMC FG four wheeler, Karrier Bantam artic, and the Albion CX7 & Foden DG eight wheelers:-

Thanks for your welcome, folks.

Bluedepot: the Leyland/BMC FGs were still fairly common on the roads well into the 1980s, and you could still see the odd Karrier Bantam (though not in the liveries depicted of course!).

.....and Oxford Diecast are bringing out a 1:148 Bedford O-type pantechnicon:-

Strangely, the illustration appears to be based on the old Corgi 1:50 scale effort (which wasn't a pantechnicon, as the cab isn't integral with the van bodywork): hopefully the new model won't be a scaled-down version of this.

Cheers

Hi,

It's good to see the range on N Gauge vehicles expanding. I like Oxford stuff as they are easy to convert.

Could always repaint some of the Tomytec japanese ones. Not the cheapest but look great and you can get them from a member(N Train) on here, just checked his e-bay shop and currently only got a few.
Other option E-bay UK - Ngauge - Tomytec  should bring up some.

One of the Tomytec lorries, the Hino with 700 series cab (and also available from Bandai) is now becomming common on British roads. And, apparently they (Hino) have some sort of tie up with Scania and cross brand some of their ranges. You just need to overpaint the kerbside view window which is not fitted on UK versions and the number plates to reflect British colours/style.

For modern(-ish) European trucks in N gauge, look out for Bachmann's Intertrans 148 range, which consisted of precisely one truck: an MAN F90 with curtainsider trailer, which was available in several UK liveries if I remember correctly (James Irlam comes to mind).

As an aside, the Intertrans 76 range was also a one-off, in the shape of a very neat Scammell Scarab (OO gauge).

Cheers
Neil

Edit: just noticed this has already been discussed:-

I have just looked at this (MY) picture on the site. The detail is incredible at my age you cannot read the printed detail. For you braver souls out there I can see that the flat bed is secured with two screws so this could possibly be adapted to other body types.

Hmm
I'm going to have to go off topic here to let you know how jealous I am of your location, Jerry!
Spent some happy days in Lucca 22 years or so, after cycling there from malpensa; eventually managed a revisit with the missus about 13 years ago, and its still an ambition to return with the kids and cycle around the walls with them in the spring sunshine, before having a long lunch in some olde worlde ristorante...

Oh, the lorries look really good too. I forsee a couple on our layout.

Well if you are in the area let us know beforehand there would be a glass of something or Tea . We are up in the mountains about 35km from Lucca. Too high up for cycling in my book ! Plenty of Restaurants nearby.

Now to try and direct the family holiday plans towards Italia...

Just spotted your flag ! We are across the valley from Barga "The most Scottish town in Italy" (as written on the signposts as you enter the town) so you would surely feel at home. My wife would be grateful to talk to a fellow sufferer , your other haalf that is ! :smiley-laughing:
