Title: My wife made a big mistake
Post by: joe cassidy on December 05, 2014, 08:24:14 PM
My kids have "desks" in their bedrooms, which consist of a big plank of wood on Ikea trestles.

A couple of weeks ago my wife decided that my youngest needed a new plank, which she bought, and the old one was then exiled to the hall, propped against the wall.

So I've been walking past this plank (120 x 80 cm) at least 2 times a day for 2 weeks.

Today I had a day off work and I cracked. I dug out my stock of redundant Fleischmann track to create my new layout Ettingham, a station on the East West Junction railway.

The track has been laid.

My wife went out with a friend straight from work so I'm sitting waiting to face the music.

MY explication will be that nature abhors a vacuum.

Best regards,

Joe

Great bit of recycling in my book, even the old desk has been used to construct something useful.   ;)

Thanks Caz.

Can I count on you to explain that to my wife ?

Best regards,

Joe

Turn it round, lean it back up against the wall, and she'll never know  :D

Great idea about the old plank.
The baseboard idea sounds good too.

Methinks you underestimate the uncanny power of women to notice the tiniest of changes in their environment and home contents!!

I think with all the 'sneaking in' of things for the layout that we rather SWMBO not know about, the main worry will be that she sells it all for what she thinks its worth, not it's real value, which could be many times higher...

OK Joe take us out of our misery what did she say after she found out that you used her chopping board as a model train layout?

Given that Joe made his last post over 12 hours ago, and hasn't been heard from since, does the membership consider that there should be grounds for concern....?    :worried:  :worried:

Just wondering.

:smiley-laughing: Pretty hard to send a reply when you are locked out of the house and sleeping in the shed  ;)

I got away with it !

Her only comment was "Where are you going to put THAT ?".

My reply - "With the others".

Best regards,

Joe

Not a fight, but an earbashing about "all these layouts you start and never finish".

She doesn't understand that the point is never to finish !

Best regards,

Joe

Tell her that you can see the error of your ways, she is right, all the layouts are futile - in future you intend to spend your recreational time drinking whiskey in a lap dancing club!

mmmmmm... A risky ploy don't you think? Even if all layouts are futile!

the other argument to go with nature abhors a vacuum is that you are fighting entropy and chaos by turning a random collection of objects into a cohesive whole.... thus tidying up in the process

by creating a layout you are tidying up

tidying up is reducing entropy

i.e. reducing the amount of chaos in the house/universe ?

When I did my engineering degree I never really got a grip of what entropy and enthalpy were. I always assumed that these words were invented by a physicist to try and explain something they didn't understand.

I always thought that reducing the amount of chaos in the house was keeping SWMBO happy! Still you learn something new every day!
