Title: Sky On-Demand ?
Post by: Tom@Crewe on November 28, 2014, 10:25:30 AM
I have a Sky + Box (9 years old). I have an up to date Router with Sky and I am told in the leaflet that came with the router that if I connect the router to Sky+ Box I can get free 'On Demand'

My old box does not have the appropriate sockets, so rang Sky for a up to date box but I have to upgrade (pay extra) or Buy new box (pay extra).

Now I see second hand, more up to date Sky + Boxes going for £10-£20, If I get one, is it a case of just swapping the boxes or is there more to it???

Has anyone done this or know better???

Tom,

You may also have to inform Sky of the Serial Number of your new box so they can tie it to your viewing card. I had to do this when I upgraded my 2nd room standard box to a Sky+ box.

Cheers

Neal.

Threaten to cancel and they'll soon send you a new box. If you have a router then you may get a new hub from them to replace it. My boxes are always bang up to date as I've threatened to cancel loads of times. Last time though I got 30% off my subscription for 8 months

My lad had to stop his Sky, he bought every thing off Sky and had it for over 4 years and ye wanted a new box, they would not give him it at all so he pulled the plug on Sky, waited 2 weeks then his partner bought Sky in a different name and have got a cracking deal, I think it depends who you get when you threaten to leave some of the Sky reps will not budge.

We have the latest router (Hub) that's the one that came with the 'On Demand' leaflet, and we have threatened to leave!

But I don't want to leave as our standard reception is poor, but not interested in the HD / 3D side off things.

Actually we are quite happy with Sky its just the 'On Demand' we would like to add, service for 'O/D' is free its just the compatible Box we want. Seems we are between a rock and a hard place.

I ditched my Sky HD subscription and got their NowTV box instead. For what I was watching it worked out cheaper to pay £4.99 a month for the entertainment channels and £6.99 when a Grand Prix was on.

What I did find interesting though was that my Sky account login became my NowTV login. Appears they're the same system (basically NOwTV's content is Sky go).  So for the sake of a £10 NowTV box you might be able to get the on demand content anyway using your existing login.

Also noticed that they've added a NowTV channel to the AppleTV so I can use that instead of the NOwTV box (which is basically a rebranded Roku and is a bit on the slow and clunky side)

Geoff, it also depends on what they've given away from their monthly quota apparently. You have to give 30 days notice anyway so if they don't call you within that 30 days with an offer then you can always change your mind. I've never had to enter into the 30 day period as I've always got something out of them. Make sure they put you through to the retention department as they are able to give the better deals. I usually ask why new subscribers get the better deals and end up getting something very similar if not the same. You always need to stay polite though (not saying you wouldn't) and even 'suck up' to them a bit but I've always found it worthwhile.
