Title: Coupling replacement
Post by: Adrian on November 04, 2014, 08:51:05 PM
Ref. replacement couplings from the likes of DG, MBD, B&B ........................

When fitting these to Farish diesel locos, could I ask what is experienced colleagues preferred option?

ie mounted onto buffer beam or onto bogies?

thanks for your guidance

Adrian

What radius are your curves?  Bufferbeam is more prototypical but tends not to work as well when the radius gets below about 500mm (in my limited experience)

Speaking from experience with B&Bs, it varies...

For the 16 wheelers (class 40/44/4546) they are always mounted on the bogies as per the prototype. For 8 and 12 wheelers, bogie mounting is easier and if you have tight curves (under 18" radius) it may be the only option for reliable operation, however I prefer body mounted whenever possible. The only one I found awkward and gave up and stuck them on the bogies was the Prototype Deltic.
