Friends,
The First first is my first EVER video!
My second First is my locomotive "William Shakespeare" , still with safety labels sticking to the name, runs a complete outside and raised track!
My Third First is that I have a track that ACTUALLY works ALL the way round!
My Fourth First is my first upload to You Tube!
It has taken nearly a year to get to this point and it brought tears to my eyes to see it actually happening!
The video looks better in full screen.

I cannot wait to see your epic Peter :NGaugersRule:
cheers John.
Well done Peter.
Looking forward to the video.

Looking forward to the video.
Thankyou, I really know what a labour of love means now! Please try again, Peter.
Perfection Peter :NGaugersRule:
I do like all the bridges you have - superb :D
Your William Shakespeare is fairly galloping round as well
Well done and I hope this is the first of many videos ;)
cheers John.

Thankyou John, I REALLY appreciate your comments. I just love bridges, if I had the money there wouldn't be ANY supported track other than by bridges!
It was so good to give the loco a run, I just left it doing it's thing for about 20 minutes, I have had it over a year but it has never run, in so many words!
If You Tube speeds up or I can reduce the size of the video, it is likely, this one took 38 minutes to upload!
Thankyou once again your interest is vital! Peter.
Well done!
That is a fairly standard time for uploading a video to You Tube Peter. What I normally do is set the video off uploading and go and do other things, whether that be on the computer or elsewhere. There is nothing worse than waiting for a video to upload by sitting waiting on it, I also never give advance notice that a video is on its way as I find the uploading gremlins are sure to strike and cause the upload to fail.
I am not surprised you let your loco run for 20 minutes as it has taken you quite a while to get where you are with many setbacks along the way, so well done on your perseverance. When I run locos I am very happy watching them go round as I find it very relaxing and hypnotic.
cheers John.
Congrats Peter on all 4 counts!
Great set of bridges.
Looking forward to the sequel.

Peter
Its great to see it all beginning to come together especially after all your trials and tribulations.
I'm still playing with the wiring.

Well done Peter! We need more!!
Hows about with coaches?
:D
Richard, thankyou very much!
I DID try with coaches but that presented another problem to solve!
They uncoupled every time as the loco is halfway up the incline!
I do not think it is the track because it is made up of (2) lengths of flexible, I suspect that there is a ruck in the underlay or that twerp has left a piece of sleeper or similar under the underlay!
Regards, Peter.
And the Oscar nomination for small screen award goes to...
Congrats Peter, there is something about getting a loco running round your track after such a load of work. I also like your bridges and look forward to the next episode.
Jerry
Congratulations Peter. Great to see the Brit running and I love the bridges.
I'm sure that with patience you will be able to solve the uncoupling problem.
Greta video some good bridges and track work

John is absolutely right - uploading videos can take an age. I've done some for my other half's various gigs and a 5-minute video can take a couple of hours. I tried to do one for a 45-minute set and it said it would take 8 hours!! I figured my laptop would probably die of exhaustion if I tried it.
Having said that, I agree with everyone else - great video, and it looks as if the layout will be spectacular when it's finished. All those circuits nearly did me 'ead in ;D!
Cheers,
Chris
Well done Peter, that is a mighty track setup and works like a dream.
Well worth waiting for, Peter. Excellent video and great looking loco.
Very nice vid, Peter
Now just leave that track alone! :telloff: :D
As the music in your vid says 'Don't stop believin'
Excellent - well done mate!! :claphappy:
Paul
Wow Peter I am impressed by your layout, all that hard work is starting to pay off, I cannot wait to get started on my journey in less than 2 weeks.
Looks like you have the video uploading sorted.
:admiration: Many congratulations, Peter.
It was nearly enough to make me want to abandon point-to-point and change my entire plan! Then I realised that my shed would have to be twice as big. :hmmm:

If it's any consolation I ran my Iron Duke with the rake of 'Golden Arrow' (Farish 0646) coaches for the first time on the club layout last evening, and guess what. Yes uncoupled at a specific point on the circuit every time where a change of direction occurs.
Remember that these are very basic coach models so 'Tweak and Test' will be the order of the day.
And the sound kept dying :worried:
Left it on the track and came home for a G&T. Back there tonight for more testing during the DCC Group evening (which I run)
I haven't had the courage to do a You Tube vid yet but you have given me inspiration.
Well done Peter It took me 6 months and a lot of help from several forum members before I managed to put photos into an Album and then a link in my posts .I too would love to put a video on Utube with a link .
You seem to be like me and enjoy watching the trains go by , That will be fantastic to watch when you get the scenics done ,I think your bridges look really great . Now you know how too you will have to put more on hear for us to enjoy.
WELL DONE

Did I read that right? "Music in my vid?" I didn't include any and whenever I study it I cannot hear anything?
Regards Peter.
PS. Have just watched it again with the volume up really high, I was unaware that my radio could be heard, I will have to make another video and talk, I didn't know that my little camera recorded sound!!! Good thing I didn't swear!
Radio on in the background when you recorded the video ;)
Paul
Peter, I saw these posts earlier (this morning, Australia time), but did not reply, 'cos I was on phone and couldn't access the vid properly. However, from comments, I thought, this I have to see!
Just watched it on me fancy new tablet at home, and mate, I LOVE it! Isn't it so great when you switch on the power and away it goes, all the way, without any shorts or derailments?!
Definitely worth a photocall!
Love the locomotive, too. Looks like a cracker.
Quadruple
George
When I have problems with uncoupling Peter, first off I take the offending item and turn it 180°. If that does not solve the problem, I then move it to the back of the rake (if that is aesthetically pleasing) and try it using either end. I feel sure if you keep swapping your coaches round, you will eventually find a secure rake. If all else fails, you could try a small piece of blue-tac on the coupling.
I hope this helps you find a solution to your uncoupling and I look forward to the PCF Epic #2
cheers John.
To solve problem random uncoupling I use woodland scenics tacky glue its much better than blue tack in my opinion and it is almost invisible and you only need a tiny amount . I have a freight train that belonged to my late best mate and it was always randomly uncoupling because of all the diferent makes of wagon I run it every operating session it now never gives any problems at all.
Bob
Well done, Peter your layout looks very impressive, I'm looking forward to seeing it progress.

Well done Peter you've sorted out your history of problems and ended up with a great results.
I envy you with all those bridges.
Congratulations (so far)
:-[ Ooops-- I nearly forgot----- a great 1st video
well done peter, looks good going over all those bridges. I bet you have done a bit of swearing laying all that track, I know I did laying mine especially when it did not work. At least you did not swear on the video.

Thankyou, very true!
I didn't realise or rather I didn't know that sound was recorded at the same time! Hence the music!
Now that I DO know I shall try again and add some narrative i.e. tunnels here etc!
Regards, Peter.
Hello again.
A small update:- I have discovered that I will have to sell most of my North American locos!
The coupling is fitted to the body not the bogie and on the Peco Number 3 curves the overhang uncouples any wagons!
Regarding my Dapol steamer and carriages.
There is a slight bump in a length of flexible, almost invisible but obviously enough to uncouple my steamer from its carriages! I have left it under compression for 24 hours and hope that it flattens enough!
Regards, Peter.
Glad you found the reason for the uncoupling, but a shame about not being able to use your US stock. Does it make any difference if you go around the circuit in the opposite direction?
Malc, they will have to run on opposite side of the road. Could fix it.
Maybe. :D  ;)
George

Thankyou Malcolm, I must admit that the idea had not occurred to me but I will try it but thinking about it makes me wonder if it will make any difference?
The other side of the coin is that I now need more cash to purchase tunnel making stuff, so perhaps it would be better to cut my losses and move on.
After all if things go the way they usually do I shall be re-aligning track all over again!
Quandaries, always quandaries!
Cheers Peter.
Great video Peter, all those bridges and viaducts, can't wait to see the scenery progress. Keep threatening to make a video of Geominster, you have given me a good reason now. Moving pictures give a better feel to the actual layout.
Great stuff, well done you.

Thankyou George, The scenery is not something I relish, like yourself I have virtually no experience of such and to that end I am intending to have as many rock faces as possible merely to cover the cracks!
As for the video, I have had the camera for 5 years but only discovered by chance how to record some moving pictures. Now that I know how, the next thing will be a better picture but when?
I must admit that I have been very lax in viewing others hard work and even more so in commenting.
Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter.
I hope to have all the track running shortly, just one small troublesome section on the reverse loop which needs attention, however in order to have confidence I think it is time for me to do as you have done and set a locomotive off on a journey and record the moment. I do have two separate loops so will endeavour to have two locos running and maybe another just crawling along. If that all works then scenery is next and needs attending to, sadly too many distractions mean that it keeps getting delayed.
Do you have a plan of your layout? Post it, because it is always good to see other modellers ideas.
All the best - George

Thankyou George.
When I was thinking of a plan last year our friends on here were only too willing to try and get some semblance of my ideas into a plan.
I imagine that unlike yourself where your woodworking is to a plan, both my life and my woodturning have never complied to a plan!
I have always hankered after having bridges etc. and crossovers and points all over the place ever since I had my Tri-ang railway all over the floor of the loft as a boy with especially the Grand Victorian Suspension bridge carrying the track over the rafters! (Those bits of wood that go across a floor in a loft space and stand proud of the others)
There WAS a plan, drawn up by one of our friends here but after the initial inner space trackwork, my brain took a different course and then the problems hacked in with great force! (A double return loop comes to mind that was more difficult than my little grey cells could cope with!!!)
Time will tell but I doubt very much if a plan will ever come to fruition!
Peter.
Peter....
Did you have one of those Triang suspension bridges?
You lucky, lucky.....
Now I understand the abundance of bridges on your layout!

Yes George, lucky no!
I just saved all my pocket money etc! I also had the Tri-ang turntable and a presentation model of the "Britannia" locomotive complete with Brass fittings that was given to a gentleman retiree from Tri-ang!
I cannot remember how much Super 4 track I had eventually but it was a lot!
Regards Peter.
Oh.... not the old Super 4 track.... it was so overscale 'cos it had holes where you could clip things between the sleepers, and being steel rather than nickel silver, it would go rusty when you tried to ballast it!!

Yes but the Britannia did have Magnadhesion and would pull all of my rolling stock until it got to a corner then the first four carriages would pull over sideways!!! Those holes were fantastic for the catenaries for my CKD Elektra!
The good old days!
You had catenary and pantographs?? When I was a kid I drooled over that stuff!
Actually, Peter.... you've got me reminiscing now....
The closest I ever got to CKD was a couple of 'scale length' maroon coaches.... :uneasy:
I had a Triang goods train, the doors/flaps on the coal wagon opened up for unloading,
you don't get that with N do you? Or maybe you do. I also had a wagon which doesn't
seem to appear in N, a 4 wheel wagon with two cable drums each about the size of a 5p coin.
Those were the days!
Yep, had all of those. Awesome!
Either that or we're just gettin' old. :(
Well we ain't gettin' any younger.... :(
