My North British branch line has an unusual visitor:

Bought from a swapmeet for £10 as a non-runner, chipped paint and no couplings. The mechanism was well and truly gunged up, so I stripped and cleaned it, and to my surprise it now runs better than any of my new Farish stuff. Controllable down to a slow crawl, doesn't stall on crossings, good as gold. Loves my feedback controller as well. So what do I do with it? (Apart from put it on Ebay of course) I can't think of anything the mechanism would suit for "Belstone" apart from a J39 and I already have two of those. Perhaps it's time to dust off the plans for "Mildenhall" and see if I can turn it into a J17.
You could always do a Scottish branch line!!
Cheers
Mark
Hi Belstone
You seem to have found a bargain!
The Bachmann incarnation of the 94xx is a very sweet runner indeed in my experience if not quite as good as the new Ivatt or WD.
It is certainly worthy of being put under a kit - how about a BHE J38? The smaller wheels of the 94xx chassis would suit it well even if the wheelbase and wheel spacing is a bit out.
Regards
Roy
Good idea, Roy, but a J38 might be a little far north for me. Nu-Cast did a kit for a J27 a while back - if anyone has an unmade one, I might be interested.
Prototype for everything ...

(some of the panniers were of course built in at North British too)
Afaik no 94xx's ever got outside GWR realms though
