Title: Kit built wagons for identification
Post by: Dr Al on October 04, 2014, 10:58:17 PM
Folks,

I've got several kitbuilt wagons which I could do with help identifying. They look worth restoration, but I don't know what bogies they are meant to sit on, and what specific prototypes they are meant to represent, nor who the original kitmaker was. The 4 at the bottom are whitemetal and look to be meant to fit onto bogies.

If anyone can fill me in on the details I'd be most grateful!

Thanks!
Alan

The top two look very like the NGS Lowmac kit;

Hi Al

There's also a longer thread already going for identifying kit wagons, but I don't think yours are covered yet. Might be a good idea to keep the information in one place:

The lower two seems to be a bogie bolster variant modelled either by Skytrex (probably) or Fleetline (possibly).
I've got one, but I've had it so long, I can't remember the maker. It runs on Farish diamond frame bogies, with spoked wheelsets, and I lettered it from, I think, the Modelmasters range.
I agree the top one seems to be the N gauge Society one; it is made in plastic, if it is. Skytrex or Fleetline also made a similar cast metal kit.

Dr Al

The bottom two are fleetline kits

I have one I built about 10 years ago

Dr Al;
I've no real idea about the middle two, but could they be from the Lone Star range?

Thanks, rabbit, do you have any idea the correct bogies for them, and if they are realistic/worth saving?

Cheers,
Alan

Dr Al

Just had a look at the wagon and it came with the generic Poole freight bogies as fitted to the Sulphate wagon

The kit did come with better wheels

The bogies are fitted with white metal pins

Your kits appear to have had the sub frames cut off although they are simple trusses and would be easily replaced

Hi, the grey bolster in the middle looks like the Beaver LNER quad bolster wagon, an ex NER bogie vehicle. I just bought an unassebled kit on eBay. It is a whitemetal kit with a plastic deck. I have the original instructions if interested.

Yes, a snap of those would be very useful!

Here are my images of the Beaver quad kit instructions and the kit itself. There were four bolsters on the wagon. My kit originally sold for the princely sum of 1.56!
