Title: U.K. Visit early October
Post by: Tdm on September 15, 2014, 06:34:05 PM
I am in the U.K. staying in Chester from the 6th to the 14th of October.
Just found out I just miss the Chester Toy & Train Fair which is on the 4th, but there is one in Crewe on Saturday the 11th of October at a place called Victoria Oakley Centre, West Street.

Is this anywhere near the Train Station as I could catch a train from Chester to Crewe and back without a problem, but I don't know Crewe at all - is the venue within walking distance of the Station, and if not how far?

Walking distance, yes.

See: http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=svh3rzgswstn&lvl=19.45&dir=358.62&sty=b&form=LMLTCC (http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=svh3rzgswstn&lvl=19.45&dir=358.62&sty=b&form=LMLTCC)

Entrance is between West Street and Meredith Street.

Trains from Chester to Crewe are about every hour and the same back, You can get a bus or taxi into Crewe, If you go by bus you need directions to the Victoria Center but a Taxi would take you straight there.

You could walk of course....

Thanks for the replies Guys - is it worth going there (looking for some N gauge bargains whilst over) and will there be any Forum members attending as guests or exhibitors?

If I go I will be recogniseable by my silver hair and tanned skin, but I won't have on my normal attire of shorts & t-shirt.

The last Northgate Arena fair I attended in Chester last December was a little dissappointing as there wasn't a lot of N gauge items on display.

I have never been this event at the Victoria Center (Or heard of it) and I live in Crewe, If you are still here in November this is the one to visit....http://www.alsagerrailwayassociation.co.uk/exhibition.htm (http://www.alsagerrailwayassociation.co.uk/exhibition.htm) at the same place.

WOW Astonishing and thank you Tdm for this post

I have been digging into this event, I have been on here since August 18, 2012, 05:18:28 pm and I have just found out indirectly there is a Crewe Model Railway & Engineering Society, who have a local layout and meet at a pub which is the closest to where I live ???, I have always thought the closest one was at Alsager.

So I think I will have a look at this event!!

This is the site I used to search for events whilst I am over.

Providing I have nothing else on that day, I am going to take a train to Crewe on the 11th of October. Perhaps if I give the misses some money and tell her to go shopping in Chester that day she won't mind.

I did go to this in the end, generally ok, for my personal interest there was a few books and the only n gauge was one stall with Oxford vehicles. The rest generally seemed to be used OO and dinky (and like) cars / Buses.

Don't think i will bother again.

Just got back to Tenerife and had no Internet at my son's house in Chester for the last few days so not been able to reply sooner.

Extremely disappointed with the Crewe Swap meet - it was as if N gauge doesn't exist in Crewe, and won't go there again. All I managed to pick up by scratching around was a couple of old Lima n gauge pullman carriages and some old fencing pieces. The Chester Swap Meets are far better as regards n gauge representation.

Pretty much my experience of a MR Show in the museum a few years back; with very few exceptions (one really good), it was a waste of time, money & effort.

We've not been back ... any no plans to.
