Title: Langley Models - Ships etc
Post by: port perran on September 14, 2014, 09:21:21 PM
Hi

Has anyone any experience of the Langley Models ships :
http://www.langley-models.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Boats__Ships__quayside_walls_etc_63.html (http://www.langley-models.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Boats__Ships__quayside_walls_etc_63.html)

Are they easy to construct/paint and do they look the part ?

I'm surprised they are all 1/148 - some are 1/160 as they are actually Artitec models unless I'm very much mistaken.

The Artitec ones are very good resin castings with etched detailing parts.

I've got the tug and the launch/pontoon.  Both excellent models .. easy to put together and paint. :)

I too have the tug and barge, but I haven't built them and it looks like I'm not going to now as they are unsuitable for my planned layout. If you're interested in making me an offer, send me a PM.

Cheers,

Chris

There are Tomix kits for tug/barge/fishing boats available - try Plus daughters and DM-Toys

Very impressive!

Going slightly off-topic, what did you use for the very realistic water?

Chris

The water is just layers of varnish over painted base

Thanks

I have the little passenger ferry (river boat). It is reasonably easy to make and paint, and it is a stunning little model. I plan for it to be a centre piece on the Thames, when i get that far.

Wire handrails will be added when i find wire fine enough! The windows are white due to superglue fumes, so be careful when gluing the roof on! The paint job is meant to be worn but clean, like she's old, but much cared for.

Looking very good; what's the height of the hull above waterline?

Lovely model and very well painted. I hope my fishing boat turns out as good as that.

At the lowest point in the middle of the riverboat it is about 1/4".
