Title: Freaky Google search coincidence
Post by: railsquid on September 14, 2014, 11:01:11 AM
So, I've got this old OO Mainline BR standard class 4 kettle which I dug out the other day to freak out at how big this OO stuff is (see last photo on this post (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=23131.msg247311#msg247311), and in an idle moment tried to see if I could find information about the set it came in (which included 3 BR custard'n'cream MK1 coaches and if memory serves correctly enough track to form an oval). Though there's a lot of pictures of stuff from that era (1979), the particular set seems to have vanished into the annals of history, anyway I got to the point of entering the very imprecise "mainline model railway set" into Google image search, and what pops up? The Lima set I received the year before that. It's the one on the right on the image on this page (http://www.vectis.co.uk/Page/ViewLot.aspx?LotId=409145&Section=198&Start=40) described as "9736 containing 0-4-0 Southern Tank Loco No.4572 and 3 x Southern green Passenger Coaches"; but the coaches may be green but I bet they never ran on SR rails (they look distinctly European) and the locomotive doesn't look very British either. (I might still have it around somewhere, but the coaches are definitely gone).
