Title: New from Greenmax - Plasser & Theurer Multiple Tie Tamper
Post by: Claude Dreyfus on July 25, 2014, 11:10:10 PM
Okay, so this is a Japanese prototype; however Greenmax are releasing a Plasser & Theurer Multiple Tie Tamper. It comes in two colours; yellow and green (the latter livery being common-place around Tokyo).

Greenmax have an excellent reputation for quality and reliability. I have a green version on order already... 8)

Is this the usual unpowered Greenmax stuff that you need to buy a Tomix power chassis for or does this one have a motor?

It's powered.  But hurry, "This item is limited to 10 per household" :D

Pity its not suitable for British layouts. I might have bought one.

I would imagine though that not that many will realise it's not actually a machine used in the UK. With some Network Rail stickers on it would look ok on UK based layout, especially at 1:150. I'll be ordering one.

I agree; the design will be generic enough not to stand out too mych...although the pale green version is more obviously Japanese. The yellow example should be fine.

These are motorised and have lights etc.

Note, the price will obviously not include customs charges and Parcelfarce 'fees'. Take these into account and it may be nearer the £100 mark. However, if this seems high, ask yourself; how much would Farish or Dapol charge for a similar piece of kit?

According to the link provided it is a 09/16 tamper which colas have a couple only difference I can see is the tamper mechanism bit has a person protection shield around it. And some slight cosmetic changes.

Look here for the colas one https://www.flickr.com/photos/35772342@N04/14027120503. (https://www.flickr.com/photos/35772342@N04/14027120503.)

The Colas 09-16's, 09-32's when I knew them, were built in the 1980's style whereas the model is in the 2000 style, which are completely different. Whilst similar to the 09-32 and 09-3X machines running today the differences are too much for me to consider masquerading one for a UK machine, (a bit like calling an Ivatt class 2 a BR standard class 2).

Had my notification through, a green version is currently on its way. Been waiting two years, but this was probably the worst time to choose for me; low Pound, safe-haven (and therefore high)  Yen and I am away on holiday!
