Title: U.K. Visit
Post by: Tdm on June 27, 2014, 11:58:52 PM
Am in Chelmsford, Essex from tomorrow evening until the 3rd of July.
Is there anything going on in the area (model railway wise) during the above dates that might be worth a visit?

It's a shame that no one has replied. There must be people in the Chelmsford area. Or have they all gone to Brazil to watch the Jaws Cup?

I did look in RM and there was a small show in Braintree on the 28th June only which Terry would have missed, and another in Basildon but that is July 5th/6th and Terry would have left by then :(
Not being a local, I couldn't help further.

The UK Model Shops event listing shows the same - nothing until 5 July. Actually, nothing anywhere at all!

Indeed. If you see their website:

http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/local (http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/local)

You can throw in your postcode, which for Chelmsford Station (for example) is CM1 1HT, you can then do a search to see what's going on within a given radius of miles.

Perhaps a better bet is to look at their monthly listings, here:

http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/y2014/m7 (http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/y2014/m7)

Events tend to occur on weekends so you're unlikely to find anything midweek.

You may decide to head into London instead. Unfortunately Central London is a complete black hole as far as model shops go. But I will say that "Wheels of Steel" in Gray's Antiques near Bond Street tube station is always worth a gamble. Sometimes very little N gauge, but sometimes there's masses, and invariably at good prices (surprising given its location).
