Before moving to Tenerife in 2004, from 1987 onwards our family lived in a small Welsh village just outside Conwy in a house that we designed ourselves and which was put up by a local builder.
Shortly after moving in and once the rear garden was well established I built a fairly extensive OO gauge model railway around part of it and over the fish pond that I constructed next to the patio. In the attached video if you look closely enough you can just catch glimses of it when panning round the garden.
In 1991 we had a side-extension built on the house that was used mainly as a Games room, and at first I installed a 7' by 4' Pool table in there, but when I got tired of playing Pool I moved the Pool table to one end of the extension and built a second OO gauge model railway on top of it so I could still play trains if it was raining outside. That too is featured in the video.
When we sold our house I left the garden railway for the new buyers to do with as they wished, but the Pool table one I advertised in Railway Modeller complete with some considerable Rolling stock for just £300 and quickly had a buyer, and later discovered that I had vastly under priced it, as for weeks afterwards I had loads of phone calls from people wanting to buy it. The engine stock included a number of Wrenn, Hornby, Lima, and Bachman engines.
The video is an old one done using a cheap basic camcorder and the quality is not all that good, but it is only a short one (with sound) and if you would like to take a look then press Play in the Link below. Have also included a picture of part of the Glan Conwy garden railway I built, taken on one of the days that it wasn't raining.
In the garage shot you will briefly see the Triumph Stag that my wife and I emigrated in, in June 2004, a journey that involved 1,000 miles of driving plus 2 Ferry crossings - from Plymouth to Santander, then Cadiz to Santa Cruz, Tenerife.
