One of the most easiest ways (for me anyway) is by looking at the wheels. All original Poole/Farish items of rolling stock and Locos had silver wheels / rims and the later China produced Bach/Farish items all came with black wheels. But be careful when buying second hand or looking on eBay, because some modellers like myself, still have old Poole items, and on most of my coaching stock and some wagons, I have changed the wheels over to black ones! Its a case of just being able to know what your looking for.

Hope this is of help to you..

Cheers, Anthony

Not sure if this is a hard and fast rule, but didn't Poole made stuff have reference numbers of 4 digits e.g. 2 car class 101 = 8133, whereas China made stuff has 6 digit codes such as 321-175? :dunce:

And the early ones have Grafar stamped underneath.

This is also correct.

Hi,
By no means a quick reference, but there's a PDF document of Graham Farish by Bachmann releases on their website:
http://www.bachmann.co.uk/pdfs/farish_products_by_item_no_rev5.pdf (http://www.bachmann.co.uk/pdfs/farish_products_by_item_no_rev5.pdf)

Bachfar Blue Riband items for me - I've been gradually replacing all my original Grafar and non-Blue Riband coaching stock with equivalent Blue Riband stock. The only exception being a 4-set of the GP coaches which will be replaced with the forthcoming (I hope) Dapol Maunsells...

In the list http://www.bachmann.co.uk/pdfs/farish_products_by_item_no_rev5.pdf, (http://www.bachmann.co.uk/pdfs/farish_products_by_item_no_rev5.pdf,) where there are two reference numbers for the same coach then the higher number is the Blue Riband version...

For freight stock then anything goes, they'll all eventually be heavily weathered and converted to auto-couplers, anyway...

If you're after a list of the Grafar stock, direct your browser at http://www.ngauge.org.uk/index.htm (http://www.ngauge.org.uk/index.htm) - concentrates on Diesel/"Modern Image", but does give a list of the four-digit Grafar releases. [Warning: some areas not yet complete]

Thanks - that was meant to be an alert to people who might be expecting a 'complete' site, not a criticism.

I've just seen the redesigned 'Bachfar' section and it looks really good.

Your efforts will no doubt be welcomed and appreciated.

And a big  :thankyousign: for taking the time and effort to document it all. I must say that I use it quite frequently to see age/provenance items listed on a popular internet auction site.

Cheers,

Brooksy

I've found that site very helpful too. Coincidentally,  I was trying to sort out the details of specific models on a well-known auction site. I was trying to set up my saved search so that it only picked up class 47s released after Farish addressed the ride height issue. That listing made it very easy., so you get a big "thank you" from me!
