Post by: MinZaPint on May 10, 2014, 09:33:10 AM
Some activity on the Dapol website! A4's Halls & Terriers etc.

Wonder if I can get a refund on my Mallard!  :-\

Those Terriers sold out quickly! Do they ever get re-stocked at that price?

If you look at the detail page for the Terrier it says '1 purchased, 0 left' - so there aren't many available at the 'bargain' price...

The Hymek looks good value but is identical to the one I've got.

Is that an old-style Hall with the incorrect lining and grey wheels?  Still the running plate looks straighter than on the last lot of new Halls I've seen.  I wonder how easy it would be to convert it to a BR-style hall?

Yes, probably why it is cheap. The running plates seem to vary between individual models rather than batches.

The lining is not right for BR either, you would need to remove the fire-box lining for starters. Then add the smokebox plate and rebrand the tender. Not impossible by any means but I am not sure if the discount makes it worth the effort when there are proper BR versions available.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I'd take the risk anyway.  When it comes to N gauge steam locos I've decided that it is practically essential to inspect them and see them running before handing over the cash.

That said, if I ever do find a Hall with a straight running plate I will probably buy it on the spot.  I know it can be corrected but I refuse to pay that much money for something that is so obviously wrong.
