Title: Claywell gets a live cam (experimental)
Post by: Caz on April 30, 2014, 07:47:46 PM
For those that haven't noticed my signature now has a new line giving the url of an experimental live webcam on my Claywell, High Hackton & Bampney layout.  It works best with Internet Explorer but should work with most browsers, there are some arrow buttons displayed, these can be used to move the camera.  Please avoid using the horizontal and vertical automatic scan buttons as these tend to cause the system to lock up if too many people try to operate them at the same time.

If I'm not actually there I will try and leave at least one train running controlled by the R&R Train Controller software.  The user name is ngf and pass is caz, all lower case.  See http://aj1429.iview.hk:81 (http://aj1429.iview.hk:81)

Edit - now logged out to let others have a go.

Saw the semaphore signal move and a train with lit coaches in the background  Then pictures of the ceiling etc so presume someone else was controlling the camera

Really excellent to see live pictures of the trains -  :thankyousign: Caz

(works for me using Safari)

If anyone is wondering why there is little colour, the room is in darkness, only the railway lights are illuminating it plus the infrared on the camera.

As I'm using a free dns service I guess there might be limitations but if it works willl look at getting a paid dns service which should help speed things up as at the moment it all goes via Hong Kong!

If anyone if having problems in IE then go to Tools > Compatibility View Settings and then add the site, it should be ok after that

Sorry, forgot to warn you that it all shuts down at 2200 CET (2100 UK) or I'll get into trouble with my other half.    :)

Will get it back up running tomorrow.

For anyone interested, trains are running now, 3 steamers and a DMU until about 1500 CET (1400 UK).

Sorry about the colours the camera shows, all the vegetation is green, honest, despite some of it looking purple or pink, can't seem to change it in the camera.

Caz

Got through OK using Firefox.  Apparently, you were at tea.

Got some interesting views of the layout, ceiling, wall and a cupboard.

From what I saw it was very enjoyable.

I think it was young Bart (1936ACE) that saw the BP.

Kind regards

Geoff

When you return from Tea Caz  ;) is it possible to add a chat option to your cam website or a way of showing how many users are logged on to prevent us fighting with each other for control  ;)

The camera just crashed, got overheated.  Will get it back up running tomorrow.

Lawrence, the stream is fed directly from my computer and I have no control over how many people can or can't connect, I've got 756k upload speed so that should cope with a few viewers at a time.  Once I get a better camera and my own DDNS I might have more control.

Thanks all for watching.

Camera ran all day today without a problem.  I managed to find a button in the software that enables me to record short sequences so for those that haven't managed to log in, here is some of today's action.

Never understood the importance of model railway activities.

Caz

Just been on the cam.  What great fun.

Mind you I saw a couple times a rather large stick being used.  You certainly know how to discipline those loco's.

Congratulations on your good work!

Kind regards

Glad you enjoyed it Geoff, sorry about the stick, one of the panniers decided to play up and needed a little slap.   ;)   Nor sure if I'll get time tomorrow as I'm out most of the day but will post on here when up and running.

Who me :)  But looks as though it might have been Paul, there was about a dozen who viewed it so it could have been anyone of them.   ;)

Right, cam is on but as I'm going out shopping there won't be any trains until I come back, probably some time after 1400 CET (1300 BST).

Please avoid using the automatic horizontal or vertical scan buttons as it upsets the camera, just use the up, down, left and right arrows.  The camera was a freebie left over from my son-in-laws security camera installation and I got the one that was a bit temperamental.  :(

Login in with a user name of "ngf" and a password of "caz" but without the quotes, link in my signature.

Sorry the camera has not been active for a while, combination of reasons but the main one is that we now have to watch UK TV via the internet and the router needs to be close to the IPTV box as it is done over wifi and the railway is upstairs and needs a cable connection to a router to work.  Going to have to figure out how to do it, someone did suggest having a second router linked via wifi to the main one and plug the camera into that, anyone know how to do this?

The easy way is to use a wifi extender which plugs into an electrical outlet, some have sockets LAN ports.

As examples
