Evening all.
Just a quick post as I'm not sure if my Tracksetta is defective or if it's me that is.
I've seen videos of people using Tracksettas to place between the rails and gradually slide along a stretch of track to get the desired curve (or lack of).
My problem seems to be that I cannot for the life of me get the Tracksetta to fit between the rails, nevermind slide along the length.
Am i missing something really obvious here or is it not quite right?
I'm using Peco Code 55 and the straight Tracksetta if that makes a difference.
Thanks.
Tom.
That's how I use mine ...
It's not N gauge but it may help you.
Flexi Track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCiqMAAtApk#)
I hope its not a OO gauge one !!!!
Mine is not a loose fit, but "clicks" in when pushed down from above. Maybe it should be pushed in from the open end of the track?? No surprise if I am doing it wrong, but it works for me!
No problems for me, either, although I admit they can be a tight fit at times
Hi Tom,
Yes, mine works OK too (biggest problem is the largest radius isn't large enough :hmmm:) but as someone else said "Are you sure you're using N Gauge Tracksettas?"
Definitely N gauge. I know I'm not that crazy.
It's almost like it's a couple of mm too big.

Then maybe it's a faulty manufacture. Can you return it to the shop?

Unfortunately not. It's an old purchase that I've only recently got around to using.
I even resorted to scraping the paintwork off the sides to see if that made any difference but it hasn't.
Then sorry Tom, I can't think what to suggest to help.
In my experience, Tracksetas are always a very tight fit - they wouldn't hold the track in place if they weren't tight but if you put it at an angle so one side is between the rails before you then push down on the other side, I'm fairly confident that it will fit in.
I've angled it just about every which way but it still doesn't want to happen.
I can manage to get about a third to a half done if I put in starting at one end and working my way along but then I get so far and it starts forcing itself back out.
Oh well, I tried. I was only really going to use it for fiddle yards and a little bit for a depot but it seems it wasn't meant to be.
Hello Tom,
Only came across you post today.
I have exactly the same problem that you describe.Right down to scraping the paint off.Still no fit into code 55 track(I have straight and all the curves). When I get a some time I intend to run each side against my bench grinder to see if I can make something usable.
Please let me know if you have found any other solutions.
Regards
Bruce
Hello Bruce
Unfortunately I never did get a fix for the problems I had.
I've not tried any other tracksettas and I can get away with not using them on my current layout.
I'm tempted to say there are just some bad ones out there.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I've been modelling N since 1974 and never used one, so I can't help!
I might be wrong (as I often am ::)) but aren't Tracksettas designed for use with Code 80 track? :confused2:
I can't think that they would work with Code 55 or finer :uneasy:.
I have used the full range of tracksetta from 9 inch to straight and all on code 55...if anything code 55 is easier to shape than code 80 as the track profile is set deeper in the plastic to give the lower track height..they are tight but just do a little at a time and pin as you are going on tighter curves...also if its code 55 then make sure the arrows on the underside of the track point towards the inside of the curve as the track webbing is cut to allow it to form more easily in this direction.

Why not? Still the same 9mm gauge and the cosmetic pandrol clips on the inside of the rail are deliberately shallow to still allow old pizza-cutter type wheels adequate clearance :)

As I said, "I might be wrong", but my thoughts (if you'll pardon the pun!) were along the lines of if people are having trouble using them with Code 55 could it be the reason I suggest?
I must confess to not having tried to used them on Code 55, only Code 80.
Just to say I have used Tracksettas on both my code 55 layouts with no issues whatsoever. Maybe I just got ones with a thinner paint job :hmmm:

Has it got twisted somehow?
