Title: Valuation for a special edition loco & carrige set ? Help please ?
Post by: Mikul on April 06, 2014, 09:24:47 PM
Hi all !

After the unfortunate loss of my dad to cancer over the Christmas period, we are busy trying to sort out all of his 'things'.

He was keen on 'N' gauge train sets & had built various layouts for my boys, as well as building up quite a collection of locomotives etc.

We're keeping a number of locomotives, rolling stock, track & accessories, but need to sell on the rest to clear some space at mum's house.

I'm trying to get a valuation for a special edition locomotive & carriage set, but just can't find an equivalent item anywhere.  Is anyone able to help, or give a rough estimate ?

The set is (I think) a German model, an Arnold 70th anniversary edition, locomotive, 4 carriages & guard carriage.  The wording is 1928-1998 Jubilaumsedition - 70 Jahre Rheingold.

It's boxed & comes with an authentication certificate & booklets.

I've tried MANY different enquiries via search engines & auction sites, but with zero success.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Do you have the item code off the box - it's probably 0318 which was a limited edition with a BR 18.4 locomotive.

This may be helpful

Thank you EtchedPixels

Yep, it does have 0318 ..... & flippin' 'eck !  If that's right, then that's a LOT more than I was expecting !

Thinking about it, the set may have come from Holland.  Dad did talk about a fantastic model train shop in Amsterdam, that he found when he went there with work.  He'd actually been retired for a few years, but still kept doing stuff for them - once NHS, always NHS I guess.

Thank you !

There was one on Ebay in Italy for 500 Euros but I don't think it sold.

However, one in Germany did for 250 Euros.

Thanks both of you for your really useful links.

Not sold it yet, but at least I know roughly what price to look for.

Managed to sell teh bulk of the rest of the stuff & have split the prceeds between the 4 grandchildren.

Ironically my youngest has decided to buy an 'N' gauge locomotive with some of his money.
