Aware that the air seems different today - can almost taste something dusty/chemical-like and it is irritating the back of my throat. :worried:
Half the Sahara Desert in there ;)

Means I shall be indoors most of the time.
I think it's all the hot air and excrement emanating from Westminster :veryangry:

Hi Gang,
You all need to buy some "man-up" wetwipes......It's quite dusty in my locale...
Later,
Stu in OAZI.
Since Pengi is female I'm not too sure she'd want to "man up" ? :worried:

:hmmm: Funnily enough, here in North Kent we don't seem to be effected yet :-X

My breathing was certainly bad on Sunday and Monday but it wasn't to bad yesterday when I went to the doctors. Today it feels quite good but maybe I`ll take others advice and stay indoors

Hi Gang,
I'll give you that one Sprintex!! :o
Later,
Stu in OAZI.
I'd love to stay indoors all day, could get some serious track alterations sorted them!
But somebody has to keep the real trains running! I'm in at 1300 for a rest day work, travel passenger Nottingham-Lincoln, work a train back and go home! I'll take 9 hours 15 mins pay for 'working' 2 hours 45 mins.....
It's a hard life! ;-)
:veryangry: and then they complain about civil servants and local govt workers getting a fortune for doing nothing. My son works 12 hour shifts 4 nights on 4 nights off and never gets more than flat rate if he works additional hours or his working day falls on a public holiday.
No wonder that rail fares are so high if this type of thing is still going on. And then to boast about it just rubs the salt in to the wound :veryangry:

ask him to look for a proper job then ? :P
Sorry Maurits71 i may have confused you and other readers. My son does not work for local govt but has a 'proper job' working in the food industry. I worked for local govt and got sick and fed up of the 'get a proper job' remarks from the great public and media. If the public servants weren't there doing there job, however obscure it would seem the country would grind to a halt.
Moderators perhaps I should have posted this on the Angry thread rather than risk hijacking this one.
Back on topic for a moment. Both of my cars are covered in a very fine dust. It also rained just a little earlier meaning that I now have dirty streaks running down the sides! At least it gives the young girl down the road a job, I pay her £5 to clean each car :D
And speaking of proper jobs, I'm off for an interview in the next hour or so
No air pollution in Jockshire apart from the stench from smokers in pub doorways.
Not quite sure what rail fares and civil servants hours to do with this topic ? ???
Cycled into work in that London, there is a distinct haziness in the air, but can't say I actually noticed a difference.
Best of luck with the interview Trainfish
Bloke in my road washed his car this morning to get rid of the dust and is now washing it again :D
Sunday was the first time in weeks that I'd washed our car. Lesson learnt, I won't be doing it again! :D
Rain washed the dust on on Sunday, again on Monday, and yesterday - I am hoping there is enough rain again to restart the process. BTW my car is white (well and kind or orange/white now) so it shows up nice...
Bring back the old days when we had proper air pollution, none of this imported foreign junk!!!!

Maybe you should! I work really hard at my job, usually 10 hour days with either stupidly early starts or stupidly late finishes(with no shift allowance), and have to deal with a lot of grief from the travelling public. Working for local government should give you an insight to how difficult working in the rail industry (and dealing with the public) can be at times. I was offered overtime and I'm not about to turn down a 2.5 hour job when I get paid for a full day, that is a part of my terms and conditions that my trade union representatives have fought hard for. You say without public servants the country would grind to a halt, the same is true without railway employees...
Apologies to the moderators and the OP for hijacking the thread....
Chris
Please can we maintain a convivial atmosphere on this thread and also stick to the topic which is 'Air-pollution warnings'
:thankyousign:
If you want to continue your discussion about 'proper jobs' etc then please do it by PM or by some other means.
:thankyousign:

Not the most helpful and tactful response.
As Pengi says - if you want to carry this on by PM, fill your boots, but otherwise please stick to the thread subject. :telloff:
:sorrysign: I only did try to be funny without trying to offend anybody
I'm not altogether sure that sitting on your butt doing nothing for 6 hours to get paid is exactly fun.
:offtopicsign:
Definitely hazy out here this morning and it isn't just morning mist either. Couldn't see any of the usual red warning lights on London's tall buildings as I came down the M11 :confused1:
This 'mist' smells funny (bit like burning?) and it's making my throat dry - might even have to break out the asthma inhaler in a minute! :worried:
Paul
My throat was dry yesterday and it was the same for the customers that I visited later in the day too. I had a sensation of something chemical-like/gritty in my mouth and on my teeth. It was also quite humid in the afternoon with a few spots of rain. The air-pollution warnings only were moderate for my area though :worried: . . .
It's pretty bad in Peterborough...actually worse than usual with all the pollution ;D
I could actually taste it in the air when I was cycling home yesterday evening - the sky as a distinctly yellow-ish tint.
Rather reminds me of the 1979 version of Quatermass.

Visibility is down a bit out here in the sticks of Hampshire and my breathing is suffering quite a bit. I don't think I`ll be doing much today :(
Although my breathing rate is higher at the moment my SATS are quite good at 95%
