Hi there, I'm not a fan but the wife watches it instead of going to church. Last night a guy on there was making a model of the Woodhead line.
Dear old Roy Cropper :D
The character has been a railway nut for years
Model railways on Coronation Street? Must get Mrs B to tune to UK TV! :tv:
I was told, in no uncertain terms, that I was NOT having a layout as big as that in the living room! Thank goodness for N gauge.
Had to laugh tonight as Roy had the layout propped up on books, old radios etc while the corner of the room looked like a small branch of a DIY shop :worried:
He had power to the track, as a loco moved. What was he faffing about with that figure though?

He was running a blue pre TOPS class 24 (I think - it had a 4 digit number).
The figure was one his late wife had mended for him.
Wow guys you all seem well informed, I have been too busy constructing my river and bridge to watch corry,
In fact I would rather watch grass grow.
Well, I'm interested! Mrs B has UK TV on the pay channels, but I think we're a year or two behind the times, here though. :(

We could tell that, George, by the length of time it took you to get a BP :D :P
As this is on the open forum, I would like to assure any potential members that we have some very funny people on here. :uneasy:

I do sometimes have to watch Coronation Street, if only to get control of the remote, and ensure the following footy stays on! Am now interested to see the layout!
(That's my story, anyway)
Here's a bit of detail on Roy's railway:

Oh no... a Cornonation Street website... (how naive am I to not even think of that)... :worried:
Wikipedia refered to Roy's toys trains! So I've changed it to model railway :)
Best regards
Michael
Nice one! :D

Would you believe it, I decided to buy a new Jinty went in my local model shop but he had sold his stock so I ordered one from Rails of Sheffield. It arrived this morning unfortunately the wife answered the door and the postman said to the wife another loco for Roy Cropper, so that stopped me from smuggling that one in......

Postman Pat's sense of humour! I must admit though, I find it funny - sorry, lil chris!! :uneasy:
No problem I found it funny too, lucky the loco was only £60+ the chip....he..he
Now whens that 4F due........
A small section of Roy Cropper's model railway has been on display at Granada Studio tours for about 18 months, but in three weeks time, the entire layout - about 13 ft square, will be on public exhibition and fully operational. The layout is currently being refurbished by members of the Manchester Model Railway Society and will be at THE Christmas Model Railway Show - Manchester 2015! on Dec 5th and 6th.
It's only fair to add that it's not so much a model railway as a theatrical prop. It's pretty crude! But it is unique. It has never been exhibited in public before and, with the imminent closure of Granada Studio Tours, it's unlikely to ever see the light of day again.
The MMRS exhibition is being held at the Barnes Wallis building of the University of Manchester in Altrincham Street, M1 7JR. It is barely a 3 minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly station and as well as the Roy Cropper exhibit, there are 17 other layouts of a much higher standard and 21 trade stands. There are two N gauge layouts: Stamford East, which featured in Railway Modeller in May 2014, and Hironocho an unusual model of a Japanese prototype.
The show coincides with the acclaimed Manchester Christmas Street Markets, so there's the chance for some non-railway related shopping and a mug or two of gluhwein before catching the train home. More details at www.mmrs.co.uk/exhibition (http://www.mmrs.co.uk/exhibition)
If it was still there, I would've asked these guys to pose in front of it...
