Title: recommend an airbrush package
Post by: bluedepot on February 27, 2014, 01:38:08 PM
Please could someone recommend an airbrush package for me?

I want to use it for weathering - so a brush that can create a fine misting is essential.

I have only used a few very cheap brushes before.

I only want to spend 50 to 80 pounds.

A brush that is easy to maintain and clean would be good.

Cheers for your suggestions in advance!

Tim

This is what I use for £69.99 including free delivery.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoxHunter-Airbrush-Compressor-Double-Airbrushes/dp/B004XP7K9W/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1393518096&sr=8-7&keywords=air+brush+compressor+kit (http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoxHunter-Airbrush-Compressor-Double-Airbrushes/dp/B004XP7K9W/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1393518096&sr=8-7&keywords=air+brush+compressor+kit)

I was recommended this kit from others on the forum because the compressor has a tank.

There is quite a bit about this kit on the forum, if you search on compressor you will find them, here is one thread (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=10131.msg187108#msg187108)

As you are just looking for info on airbrushes, can I assume you have an oil free compressor with an air tank?  Assuming that is the case, really anything by Iwata or Badger that fits your budget will serve you well, personally I prefer the top feeding types, and the two brands I mention have a good range of spares and support

cheers pengi for link that looks like a good kit.  that is number 1 option so far.

nope - I am after a compressor as well really as propellant is a bit rubbish and expensive to keep buying cans of it too.  yes I think I want a top feeding one - tried some cheap bottom feeding ones and they weren't great, obviously as they were so cheap.

any more suggestions for a starter package I could get?

cheers,

tim

Exactly the same set-up that I have just taken delivery of - and from the same supplier!  :) I read reviews, both on Amazon and online, and decided that this was a very good value package. However, a lot of people say that the airbrushes that come with it are rather basic and budget, so I treated myself to one of these too -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iwata-R-2500-Revolution-Airbrush/dp/B000MH6Q5E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1393531109&sr=8-3&keywords=iwata+revolution (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iwata-R-2500-Revolution-Airbrush/dp/B000MH6Q5E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1393531109&sr=8-3&keywords=iwata+revolution)

I used an Iwata when I went on an airbrush training course and thought that it was a very good airbrush. Couldn't quite afford the one I used then, but the Revolution seemed like a good choice!

I agree, I bought an Iwata Neo Airbrush which is their base model - cost £45 but was worth every penny.
East to use, easy to clean (very important) and sooo well made - highly recommended !

For those just getting their setup I would highly recommend you get one of these anti slip mats for your compressor as it will go walk about when switched on.

I got my mat from the £1 shop so it may be worth checking out your local £1 shop first.

cheers John.

I'm not an airbrush expert, but I can't fault my PremiAir G35, for light use.

I also have an AS186 compressor, by the way. Nice bit of kit, especially for the price.

This is very good advice   (which I ignored first time round and the air-compressor walked off a window ledge onto my workbench knocking over paints, etc - the antislip mat has done the trick)

The AS186 compressor can get blisteringly hot -  :ouch:  :o this is normal.

I have documented my start in airbrushing in this thread (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=15028.msg149090#msg149090). I have learned from mistakes, which are all in this thread, and bought stuff that was not really suitable or necessary :(
