While visiting my local (independent) stationery shop yesterday which is a fantastic treasure trove of all things stationery, craft and just general "stuff" I found myself studying the cork noticeboards.
A thought came to mind that with a little bracing and playing around you would have a great, all be it not much bigger than 3ft x4ft, baseboard! No messing around laying cork, if that is your preference and very light weight if the layout needs to be portable!
Not sure if anyone has tried it but just one of those things you look at sometimes and an idea comes to mind!
A similar thought struck me, and I went as far as to buy one, with a view if putting a small loop / test track on there.
The problem is - they (or at least, the one I bought), aren't made entirely of cork - it's like a thin veneer of cork with corrugated card in the middle. Itv struck me as being quite flimsy, and any moisture from paint or glue would probably make a pigs ear of it.
A whiteboard of similar size might work, if you weren't planning to drill for many points etc. but then there's no saving of weight over plywood...
I've seen a few of these cork noticeboards and they look quite attractive from a small layout point of view. As Richey1977 pointed out the cork is very thin, however they could be reinforced using foam
board panels, very light and quite strong, not sure what adhesive to use . Evostik impact?
Points could be surface mounted.
