Over the last week I have assembled some Peco Wagon kits.
The nuts which secure the wagon body to the base are both tiny and very fiddly!
Has anyone got a tip on the best way to fasten them with breaking them - as I did!
Thanks.
Richard
I used some superglue and, as yet, they have not separated!

H Richard,
Personally, I used a small pair of pliers, however, my kids have something called tech decks, each one of the bike or skateboard sets come with a tool that is used to secure parts in the set, I think they are the same size nuts that are used in those sets!!!

I use a set of BA nut spinners. Don't ask which size one it is that fits, as their box got smashed long long ago and they all now just rattle about in the bottom of the railway's tool chest.
One tip I did hear yonks ago was to warm the nuts up before screwing them down, they have to cut their own thread, something that a nut is not supposed to hence the extra strain and snapping of plastic stud.
Now harking back to my "real" engineering days (I fly a computer now, rather than a toolbox), when cutting a thread you never drive it down in one go, you screw in a bit then back it off, normally in metal cutting you'll break the tap/die, but as this is plastic thats going to break first.
I use needle nosed pliers, but often lose the nuts and end up with glue. Doesn't really matter as the kits are
cheap and it's unlikely you would want to disassemble them after completion. I like them as they are quick and
easy to make and there's a good range available.
I used to use pliers but now I have mini nut runners.
As a side note even factory rtr peco sometimes come with the stud snapped as I found out recently having bought a wagon from the model shop

Heavy duty tweezers or long nose pliers.
I find this method better than glue as you can tweek the nuts so as to get the coupling dead level thus almost eliminating randon uncoupling (caused by uneven couplers plus uneven track).

Thanks for all the replies!
My two boys also have "tech decks"...I'ill be fishing around for the tool later today to have a go.
Failing that - glue will be my saviour!
Incidentally the wagon bodies (Peco / Charringtons) came off ebay, three of them, for under a fiver. With the cost of the chassis kits...three wagons for around £12.00!

I'll be honest, I couldn't find my son's, it was just something that dawned on me this morning, I can't be certain it'll work, good luck with it.

I'm also in the 'life it too short to fit the nut' camp, and glue mine lightly.
If you are spending hours trying to fit a nut on a silly little plastic blob with pliers then the real nut is not now on the floor (again) IMHO, it's in the mirror
