Title: Import duties
Post by: pape_timmo on February 26, 2014, 06:49:42 PM
Hi folks,

I know a number of you have bought stuff from abroad, the Far East for instance.

Daft question... Is there a minimum financial value at which taxes and duties start to be charged by HM Customs & Excise?

The reason I ask is my fiancée has been buying gifts and favours for our upcoming wedding, from Amazon and EBay, and a lot of them are coming from China. She's just had a message from DHL to say that she owes £15 taxes and duty for them to deliver. The products were about £40, and she paid £21 for shipping.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Timmo
