Title: magnetic right angle clamps
Post by: Humby on February 19, 2014, 11:48:20 AM
Hi all,

I saw a review recently of some magnetic right angle clamps that can be used for holding two pieces at a 90 degrees whilst glueing and for the life of me I cant find the article anywhere. Could anyone point me in the right direction to where I can order them

Regards

Marc

I bought them from Turkey too - they are good but the magnets are a bit 'fierce' :ouch:

Yes, and I put some contact paper felt flocking on mine. It doesn't do much but I don't worry about the clamps slapping together. And mine are blue. Got them many moons ago from the Woodworker's Shop in San Diego when they first opened.

If you check York Model shop and you get the small ones they work out at £12 plus p&p.

thank you for the link to Yrk. Some of their gear looks expensive, but seems as though it's decent quality. Bill.

£24???  :confused2:  That's a significant chunk of a new loco!

Magnets: ~£4 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Neodymium-Rectangular-Magnets-5x5x2mm-Rare-Earth-Strong-High-Grade-N42-3-49-/230980733357?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35c78649ad (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Neodymium-Rectangular-Magnets-5x5x2mm-Rare-Earth-Strong-High-Grade-N42-3-49-/230980733357?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35c78649ad))

Some scrap triangles of plasticard, card or metal: free

Not getting totally ripped off for 2 minutes of work: satisfying

No. £12. For 2 of them.

And they are indespensible for making models. Its the magnets that help. My scrap plastic doesn't have magnets in it - and I couldn't cut it square either.

Huh?  How do you work that out?  Pack of 10 magnets for £4, 2 magnets per part (or 4 per complete clamp). And there are even cheaper places to buy, such as: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-Very-Strong-Square-Block-Neodymium-Magnets-5mm-x-5mm-x1mm-Fridge-/290720620581?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43b04ca025 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-Very-Strong-Square-Block-Neodymium-Magnets-5mm-x-5mm-x1mm-Fridge-/290720620581?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43b04ca025)
£2 for 10 magnets.

Ok, then perhaps the DIY route isn't for everyone but I suspect that most could manage the use of a set-square.  And even if not, it doesn't really matter - only the magnets need to be at right angles, everything else can be almost as scruffy as you like.  You just need to glue them overhanging the edge of the card slightly:

Then it doesn't matter how wonky your cutting is.
