Anyone visited Rail City in Bruges ?
We are travelling to Bruges in April (going by Eurostar) and I wonder if a visit to this café is worthwhile ?

I think if you are in Bruges then it looks worth a visit and if it is raining then it is a no brainer  :D

cheers John.

To my lasting chagrin, the wife and I were in Brugge in 2011 and I somehow never caught wind of this!! We loved every second of our stay in the Old Town portion of Brugge, and just missed this. Been kicking myself since I found out.  :veryangry:

Hi, I was there about a year ago. Bar owner very freindly and great beer!! Also in Brugges there is a model shop, if you go through the archway next to the town hall in the main square, cross over one of the canels and it's on a street just pastn there on the right. Can't remember what it was called though!!

Hi
We were in Bruges just over two years ago, wonderful city.  I found this café when they were just setting up and had no trains running.  We had a beer I think.  Nice to see it prosper pity it is the wrong gauge

Got back yesterday from a 4 day break in Bruges and we loved the place.
It really is an amazing city.
Lovely weather, great walks and great beer!
And the trip there by Eurostar then local train from Brussels to Bruges was great.
Popped into Rail City whilst we were there. Nice little café and a great layout (even if it is the wrong scale!) which isn't quite finished but is looking really good.
Well worth a visit if you are in Bruges (takes a bit of finding though).

I particularly like the half roundhouse. Well worth a visit and it's free if you buy a beer or a coffee.

Rail City in Bruges is great and is very much a work in progress.  I have visited it on my 3 trips to Bruges (2009, 2010 and 2013).  Over these years it has grown, more trackwork has been done and the scenery has grown to cover more of the vast layout.  The layout has elements of Germany and Belgium and has lots of great little details all around.  There is also a bar, a great place for a beer and a chat.  Did you notice the lines under the floor?  These will form part of a future extension.

Bruges as a whole is always a pleasure to visit, especially when the Christmas market is on.

Omar.

I last visited Bruges in 2007 but was unaware of this attraction.
Next time I'm visiting the city I'll pay a visit.

Thought I would post some directions for Rail City and the Brugge model shop, both are well worth a visit but a little bit tucked away.

For both we will start in the main market square with your back to the Belfry.

For Rail City take the street on the left, Steenstraat, after about 250 metres there is a square on the left, Simon Stevinplein, take the street in the bottom right hand corner, Mariastraat. Again after about 250 metres you will come to Saint John's Hospital on the right. Go through the arch, you will see signs for Rail City, enjoy.

For the model shop again starting from the square, back to the Belfry. Take the road on the right, Breidelstratt through to the Burg. Go through the arch to the left of city hall, called Blinde Ezelstratt, over the canal, go sort of straight on, the road you need is in front of you on the left called J. Suveestratt. first on the left is Braambergerstrat. The model shop is on the left just inside the street. Its only about 300 metres from the market square.

Hope that helps.

Steve

We liked both of these when we went afew years ago. Model shop reminded me of a Euro pharmacy - bright lights, glossy products well displayed.
Nothing i was permitted to buy though...
(Need to slip in without wife and childer to tut!)
