Title: BR Steam Era Buffer Beam Colour
Post by: stevieboy on January 29, 2014, 07:15:20 PM
Sorry if this is in the wrong area.

What is the best match for the red buffer beams on BR steam loco's? I've got a tiny touch up to do on my 5mt and Humbrol Buffer Beam Red looks pink when applied.

Not sure what it dries like but it doesn't match well at all.

Me too. Even when stirred vigorously for an eternity it is still pinkish.

For just a small area I would use Signal red or Post office red, they can always be dry brushed/weathered. Cheers john.

I use Humbrol 60 which seems a pretty good match to that used by the main manufacturers.

Cheers,
Alan

Thanks both,

As it happens it was a spot of black paint on top of my beam, but worth knowing the colours for future reference

Some red enamel paint can be a bit transparent, if that is the case then apply a coat of white, pink or grey as an undercoat. When that is dry paint on the red.
