Thanks Guys,
Looking forward to playing with the new Deltic Prototype when I get home from work. Quickly ran it round the test track this morning. It seemed very smooth and has some lovely detailing.
What stock to run it with though? :hmmm:
Gavin.
happy birthday and nice deltic!

Happy Birthday Gavin
I have a DP1 and have no idea what it should pull! Someone will tell us I'm sure but:
Here's a simulator 'movie' link BR DP1 Deltic In Detail (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVNu3oieXto#ws)
Looks like the simulator is suggesting maroon MK1s but happy to be corrected.
Here's an extract from a BBC webpage:
Deltic weighed over 100 tons5 and was almost 70 feet (21 meters) long. It could reach 100 mph and was the pinnacle of diesel locomotive design. It was originally planned for use on the Midland region; however, plans to electrify it meant that DP1 was introduced to the Eastern Region to replace some of the Gresley Pacific6 steam trains. The Gresley steam locos were some of the most sophisticated and elegant examples of steam locomotives in the world. The express locomotives, which included the A4 class, of which Mallard was a member, could easily top 100mph.
As well as offering the speed to be able to replace the steam trains, Deltic was probably the only locomotive elegant enough to replace the A4. Besides, the locomotive could generate a cloud of smoke that even a big steam engine would be proud of.

Thanks again eveyone for the birthday wishes.
... and Geoff.

Maroon MK1's sound plausible. No doubt someone will put us right if that's not correct. I'll have to do a little research of my own.
Having studied the Farish DP1 tonight I must say I'm very impressed. The level of detail is stunning and it really looks the part. I'm also amazed just how long it is! Think it might the longest loco I own - it really is a beast!
Seems to have a lot of weight to it as well so I'm presuming it'll have good traction power!
Gavin.
Sorry guys,
Could not resist posting up a picture of my new present sitting on my layout.

Next job will be to chip it for DCC.
Gavin.
Gavin, the Deltic was released by Farish with a pair of crimson and cream Stanier coaches as the Merseyside Express train set
Farish stock code 370-275.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, Timmo
great looking loco. Love the detail. is that standard usual on models of UK locos? cheers, Bill.
I had a Kitmaster model as a kid and that is definitely on my wish list - but having just acquired a Blue Pullman (and driving the mods crazy in the process :D), it will remain there for some time, methinks.
Yours, green with envy. :envy:

The newer stuff is much better detailed and I'm told more accurately modelled. The DP1 is rather good!
Thanks Timmo. I have some crimson and cream stock as well as maroon so looks like I'm ready to roll.

A belated Happy Birthday from me - hope you had a great day

The Deltic in the simulator sounds very wimpish to me. Where's the roaring engine, the vibrating, rumbling platform as it thunders its way past? I remember train-spotting in North London in the mid-seventies and enjoying the feeling of power as each Deltic hurled itself through the station. This simulation just doesn't do it for me.
Didn't have the sound up Pete so you may well be right!
The link was to see if it suggested what coaches were being pulled. And it did! :D

But DP1 is BLUE :D
DP1 was first allocated to the London Midland Region in 1955 initially on freight and then hauled express trains such as the Merseyside Express and the Manxman between Euston and Liverpool Lime Street.
In 1959 it was transferred to the Eastern Region where it spent much of its time on Kings Cross-Leeds expresses.
Appropriate carriages would be LMS Stanier designs and Mk1s in crimson/cream, later on maroon on the LM Region, and Gresley and Thompson stock with Mk1s on the Eastern.

And thanks again to everyone for the replies. Really appreciated them all.
