And it is a superb model. Go for it.
The box is pretty good in my view. The cardboard sleeve is just way too tight like all Dapol boxes but peals apart easy and re-glues with Copydex set a bit more relaxed. The foam insert is meant to be taken out with the model still in it rather than being shaken free like you might if it was a £6 goods wagon. Dapol packaging come up to Minitrix standards.
Brilliant model go for it I have desert sand version from Osborns looks the cats whiskers lol. :bounce:
Has anyone had an issue with the ridges on the clear plastic inlay rubbing the paintwork ?

No, because I binned it! I also found it a total pain to fit into the box each time the model was finished with.
I much prefer that soft transparent plastic sheeting that comes with most of the Farish models.

Totally agree. Why didn't I think of just binning it? :-[
I keep my Western in a plastic carry case which has foam trays designed to take N gauge locos and stock. Much easier than faffing about with the original packaging every time. Original boxes are stored in my loft just in case I need to sell them later on.
There are faint marks on the bodies of both my blue Westerns which I noticed the first time I took them out of the boxes. The boxes are in the loft now!
Best ones

Anybody get a T.I.N.G.S box?

Enjoy. Must surely have been the best diesel model of 2013. Be sure to post a photo or two once it arrives!
Cheers, NeMo
Happily agree with all the comments, I have just acquired a Br maroon one with the intention of replating as Western champion. It is a superb model in nearly every way, it runs superbly well, looks most excellent but I have one big issue with it - why are the ends of the axles so bloomin obtrusive? they are not flush with the wheel surfaces and are a very different colour, once noticed, each time I look at the model it is all I see, aaaargh!!!
Anyway, I will have to have a go at them to shut my self up, am thinking that a very simple weathering will make a massive difference!

But that's exactly what they look like in real life. Take a peek at some colour photos of 'Westerns' that are nice and clean. The axles certainly stick out quite a bit (looks like a good inch or two) and the axles, wheels and wheel rims are all different colours (though admittedly not obvious once they're dirty).
If you don't already have it, look at a copy of the 'Modern Locomotives Illustrated (http://www.modernlocomotives.co.uk/view_issue.asp?ID=5398)' issue about the 'Westerns'. It's got lots of colour photos that'll help with weathering. It's got quite a bit of text as well, so it's a good read too.
Cheers, NeMo
ok, see what you mean, but out of the box, they look overpowerly in your face. Perhaps after the weathering all will be well in the world.
best wishes

:hellosign:, I have 2 westerns, blue western venturer, and maroon western sultan.Have not run western venturer sins before christmas.Ran her today and lights have stopped working in revers its also jurking at slow speed. >:(Has enyone had this problem. Its going back to hattons tomorrow.
Dapol Western questions:
1) Has anyone had any pickup issues, had mine on it's back to try and clean the wheels, it seems to only have one or two wheels picking up. I can see it is one of the DJM mechs with the pickups buried inside the bogie and a couple of bits sticking up to connect with wipers under the body.
2) Mine has developed a jerk - it's quite regular, loco runs, comes to complete stop, prod, covers similar short distance, stops, prod and repeat. I am not sure if this is a sign of a split gear, but when I had the loco up on a rolling road only one bogie had it's wheels rotating and I could actually turn the wheels by hand on the bogie that was not showing any signs of being turned by the motor. However, I did swap the bogie out for the spare without coupling and it was still doing it.
Something odd going on....
Assuming they have drive shafts it sounds like one of yours has come out, it's possibly fouling, hence the jerky motion. It's far less common to find Dapol locos with split gears.
Thanks, something to look at once I figure out how to completely remove the body seeing as there is a connection to the top of the body for lighting, Dapol, sorry DJ, did not make getting into his models a priority.
