Title: Amazing LEGO trains
Post by: NeMo on December 28, 2013, 11:22:20 AM
A link to this was up on Phil Parker's blog today. Besides being extremely cool, these LEGO trains give a whole new spin to the usual "but is it modelling" argument!

Isn't that wonderful. The amazing thing about LEGO is that when it came out in the late 50's, they have stuck with their original specs, and every bit of Lego, be it Duplo, Star Wars or whatever, will join on to another bit of Lego. Totally innovative engineering.

My only beef about this post is that, having just received an N gauge Blue Pullman for Christmas, the Lego one looks like it's unhappy with a face as long as a fiddle - a bit like Mrs B when I get home after a night with the boys down the club!

Sorry to all our female readers in advance - just jokin'  ;D :uneasy:

I used to love LEGO as a kid, especially the technic LEGO. Grew out of it, adult life took over, etc., etc. Received a book to review a few years back called Cult of LEGO (http://www.nostarch.com/cultoflego) to review and it opened my eyes to what's been happening in the world of LEGO. From high art through to real engineering via life-sized dinosaurs, you'd be amazed what "adult fans of LEGO" do with these little plastic bricks. Definitely a book to read if you like LEGO.

I've actually come back to LEGO a bit thanks to those freebie LEGO kits the Sun newspaper gave away recently. I've been buying the odd Star Wars LEGO kit because they're just so much fun to build (and swoosh around the living room when the Mrs. isn't around).

Cheers, NeMo

PS. If you fancy a shortcut into LEGO trains, there's a nice-looking set (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10219-1) that makes a Maersk loco and container wagons. I'm quite tempted!

Oh no. Closet Lego people..... next thing it'll be My Little Pony collectors  :D

But I was given a 7/6d Lego set for Christmas back in 1959 from me Aunty and built it up every week with pocket money until it culminated with a lighting brick in 1963. Designed to work off a 1.5V battery, I promptly plugged it straight into the wall, blew meself across the living room, cut off all the power to the house just as me father was watching the FA Cup final replay, scorched the new wallpaper, and burnt myself severely.
Me fatha was not impressed.

I learned a lot of things that day.  :uneasy:

Now, that could explain a lot George.   :P   ;)  :)

This guy's Lego trains are awesome. He's even managed to fit some of the Lego motors with DCC (including light and sound) ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricktrix/9223428574/#secretc18d28ba38 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricktrix/9223428574/#secretc18d28ba38) ).

I've been trying to build some (as near to) scale trams from Lego, but as with everything else, I don't seem to have enough time to get stuff done. Will hopefully get back to my N Gauge soon, but I've got so many different things that I want to do.

Can someone write a simple computer program that automatically deletes references to said Blue item. As once again the man in the red suit did not bring one......

Still since building "Walford East" and perhaps if I were to move the layout location to Londonium then perhaps Mrs"H" would see the sense in one of those 6 -car diesely things... After all Whiteswan has one on the Fairford branch !!!!

Perhaps the Easter bunny will be kind to me

Really!!  :o Showing something of that length on a family forum such as this should get you an instant ban.

You see Mr B...some of us are quite challenged in that area. Some of us (me) only wanted a teeny weeny Class 170, only to be told it was permanently delayed at the North Pole, and then you go around flashing that.  :hmmm:

I'm off to the loft to get the bucket of Lego and make my own Class 170   :(

All the best for the New Year, mate - may it bring you a Class 170!

:beers: Cheers!

Funny enough I came across Lego pice of locos and cars recently before this thread.  Quite in awe of what Lego does these days.  25 years ago I was given what must have been 8 Tesco bags of ...almost 20 year old Lego then plus basic train track, what they come up with these days is just amazing.  Nice to see also it's not just big plastic mouldings which is what you see on the high street kits. I thought Lego had lost it's edge these days but obviously not.
