SO.....I see we are creeping ever-onwards towards a NGF membership of 3000 !! I really think that will be quite a milestone for all us n gaugers . Seems like a good point to say a HUGE 'thank you' to all the Forum staff who do such a brilliant job of keeping it all on the rails - pun definitely intended . Some weeks I hardly seem to be on the Forum at all (because of all sorts of things) but other times I am on a lot , regularly doing a 30 minute trawl on all sorts of topics.....one thing here so often leads to many others !! The only problem with that is keeping up with the number of topics/postings that I've bookmarked ! Thanks again to everyone , but to the Forum staff in particular !!!!!! Cheers to one & all , Ric

Good of you to post this, as one of the current 'staff' I'll add my thanks to Mods past and present, and of course Tank for steering the good ship (or train?) NGF to where it is now. I honestly have never come across a forum railway or otherwise with such a good vibe :thankyousign:
Inevitably some of those members will be 'ex' members for one reason or another, but also there are a great many who have registered but never posted. That is their choice and it is fine, but I'd like to say to them please take the plunge and join in - we don't bite, we don't care how little knowledge or expertise you have, we just want to talk N gauge
Paul
Yes I agree, thanks to all the mods and especially Tank who started this. Without you all, newbies like me would be in a dark tunnel without a lamp.
Ian
A big thanks from me to all who run and help to run the forum.
Long may it continue.

I fully agree with that statement and ask for my thanks to be noted also.
To all that run this top forum and those that contribute so positively - your all making this the top place to be.
Tried the rest and settled here - never felt so welcome.
Respect to all

TANKs guys & girls!
Gerard
Can I add my personal thanks as a "newby"!
;D
Big member count for a reason, people will always flock to the nice place, why wouldn't they?
I can't say much for other forums, never been a member of any other one, and I have no reason to search further :D
But this is an excellent resource, full of knowledgeable chaps and chap-esses and often very funny.
Thanks to all those who run it and long may it continue.

Thank you all for the wonderful words. :claphappy:
Reading such posts truly makes coming on here a pleasure! :) We all play our part in keeping the forum a pleasant and informative place, so well done to everyone one here.
:thankyousign:
Thanks from me, but probably not many from Mrs "H" as since I joined this forum I have monopolised the home computer.
However it keeps me from doing other things like household repairs cutting the grass and other non essential things.... :NGaugersRule:

I must echo the others in saying THANK YOU to Tank, the Moderators as well as the technical people who make this Forum a must for anyone into N Gauge.
Its a constant source of advice, tips, inspiration and laughs and empty pockets.
The only problem is I would be £££££££ richer if I hadn't got into N gauge.
Keep up the good work all of you!
Ray

Having suffered once or twice from unpleasant and cliquey forums in other scales- no names no pack drill - I wholeheartedly echo this praise. NGF really is special.
:thankyousign: :thankyousign: :thankyousign: :thankyousign: :thankyousign:
Hear, Hear to all of the above. And a big thankyou to all 'staff' and members.
It wasn't that long ago when I went into a MR shop and asked if they had any N Gauge stuff? Reply: No, it won't catch on. Or words of a similar nature :whiteflag: :jawdropping: :nerner:
Please add my thanks this is the friendliest and most helpful forum I have found, it is a pleasure to login everyday
:bounce: :bounce:   :NGaugersRule:
I concur ! :Carriage:
Now if every member donated just £1.
How good would the forum be then. :NGaugeForum: :NGF:
I do not post very often but look in most days. If I don't the posts take ages to get through.
Many many thanks to all who make all this possible. :NGaugeForum:

I posted a similar thought in the aborted "Penny for the guy thread"

"I was thinking that it would be better to contemplate how many members we have, then to divide that into the cost of a new laptop and I'd be in for a tenner or two to get you back in pronto ! Rather than all this going nowhere offtopic stuff !"
In which my 'you' was Tank and I was talking about a new laptop for him for all his hard work and unfortunate circumstance !
but it didnt get a following ! ( or should I say 'didnt trend' in this new social media world ?! )
So, we have at least £10+1 so far , , , , ?
Mind u, I am unsure of Tank's status, I thort the airing cupboard had cured it but PM correspondence suggests he is still on iPad ?
Dont the mods and admin have a tally on number of active members to do a wee division ?
We do have statistics.
We are grateful for any donations that members wish to give to help with the running costs of the forum and a very big :thankyousign: to all of you that have donated.
Thanks for the suggestion RChook. No need for everyone to feel like they need to do that, but I thank you for the idea. The laptop works for about 8-10 minutes each time before I get the 'blue screen of death', so I am able to use it for quick periods, but I'm not able to design anything for fear of the laptop crashing!
No iPad I'm afraid, just an iPhone and the use of my desktop PC when I'm at work.

:( ah, no,, understood,,, not conducive to great thoughts ! :(
"No iPad I'm afraid, just an iPhone "
sorry, my bad, not used to these modern iThingies :)
Bigric > "towards a NGF membership of 3000"
Sprintex > "Inevitably some of those members will be 'ex' "
me> "admin have a tally"
Pengi> We do have statistics.
go on,
dont keep us in suspenders !
Wot's the proportion nearly3000:MoreOrLessActive ?
What do you regard as active? There are 1489 members who have never posted, and 677 with more than 1 but below 10 posts. So, 762 with 10 or more posts, but many have become inactive for various reasons.

Quite so, that is the prob.
I had nothing upon which to evaluate the 3000 vs. £1 , which is why I said MoreOrLess ! and consequently raised the wonder :)
Thanks for the insight to the stats, very interesting
"There are 1489 members who have never posted"
Gosh, that is most surprising.
However 762, if they could be persuaded, would still obtain an NGF laptop of fair capability, I expect OwL will organise it , any minute now , ,
Thats guilted me into handing over some readies!
Jerry
Thank you Jerry, and to everyone else who donates. It's always appreciated.
As I've said before, there is no intention in asking for a membership fee for the forum. I feel it would change the dynamics of the forum completely.
Perhaps in the future there may be a premium area or such? I don't know yet. I'm struggling with time so extra paperwork is a no no! :)

Gosh, that is most surprising.
Not really, there are always those in life who only take, yet give nothing in return, irrespective of the subject >:(
I don't believe you should take Admin/Mods into account when looking at any such statistics as it has to be remembered that part of our remit is to look at every post regardless, unlike others who can pick and choose. Therefore by our very existence we are likely to post more than others.
Pretty much anything can be made of statistics but I feel it is safe to assume those with 1000 posts or more have been with the NGF the longest so that has to be factored in as well.
At the end of the day, does it really matter how many posts any member has? I have experienced some members who have under 10 posts to their name but the information gained from those posts has been invaluable. I won't go into quantity v quality as you will all see by implication I post a lot of :poop: :-[
I do, however, feel those who just 'lurk' without registering are missing out :hmmm:

So can't the forum be modified to only show PICTURES and or POSTS to members who are logged in ?
Yes it can. Some boards on the forum aren't shown to guests, just as the Classifieds isn't shown to those with less than 10 posts.
Nice one Ric. We do, I must admit, take the mods and other staff for granted a lot of the time so it's good to have an excuse to say a big :thankyousign: to everyone who has a hand in making this such a great, friendly place to be. Well done to you all. :beers: :beers: :beers:
