Time was when if you tried to reply at the same time as someone else you got a warning it was happening. Now the reply just goes into the ether without warning and you are lucky if you spot it has happened and can backtrack to find your reply. In my case, instead of a warning I get an "internet page has expired" warning which then leads me to refresh the page and only then do I get the forum warning that I was trying to post while someone else was :veryangry:
Sorry, but this is getting quite annoying. Can we revert to the old (much better) method of getting the forum warning in the first instance please?
That is not happening to me Mick, I get the red writing telling me someone has posted and that is it.
Must be an IE gremlin lurking in your machine :-X
Oh :poop:
Thanks, John (I think :worried:)
Yep, all well here at the Aussie end too
Yep, same as John, red warning message appearing as normal :)
Paul
I've had messages going into the ether intermittently since before August 2012 (when I first reported it) although I don't get the 'internet page has expired' message. I've not had the issue so much recently though.

- no matter whether I use Firefox or Safari on my Mac, I don't use IE
If I am doing a long post then I will take a copy - just in case
T also get the red warning.

Ah yes, always do that too
Few things more annoying than spending 10 minutes writing a great long post, pressing the button without copying first, and getting "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Paul
Yup, warning here too - however, the warning appears lower on the page than my preferred window size, and I can miss it - any chance that it can be relocated higher up ?
Mike
No problems here either, and nothing should have changed. :hmmm: :firefox:
Try deleting the browser's cache.

Paul, don't use Internet Explorer. Really, don't. There are much better, safer, faster browsers available, most notably Firefox and, dare I say it, Google Chrome. ;)
I just get the red warning and can complete my post after I've checked what's been posted in the meantime.

Then I am not surprised that the issue still exists, given that I first reported in in Aug 2012 :D
There may be two issues here - the IE issue (I don't use IE) and posts going into the ether.

Have tried both, didn't like them, not as easy to use as IE to me :)
Paul
Just the mention of IE makes me shudder! :worried:
I'm quite happy with IE and don't suffer some issues others seem to have with other browsers :)
Is IE still about :smiley-laughing: I haven't used it since IE6 launched, been with Firefox and Chrome as my backup.
I'm also in the still getting the red warning camp, sometimes I ignore it :P
Just had another post disappear into the ether. Using Firefox
Very strange. I've never had it happen. :-\
Nor me, I use Firefox most of the time but on WinXP sp3
I knocked out a rather long winded post to someone on Monday and thought it had gone OK.
About an hour later I could see it had only disappeared into the ether and by then couldn't get it back.
It's happened to me on several occasions. I know the advice of say, typing it on a word processor program and saving it first, blah.... but I still takes me chances. Most of the time my posts and short and sweet and not worth losing too much sleep about anyway, eh. :laugh3:
Still not happening to me. I always preview my replies first, to clear up spelling and grammatical errors (once a proofreader, always a proofreader), and then post. Could that be making a difference?
As a back-up, all you need to do is copy your finished message before you post it. If the post disappears, you can just paste and try again.

I preview my messages too  - particularly to check hyperlinks are correct. Doesn't seem to make any difference whether the posts go into the ether or not. It's not a big deal as I copy detailed posts

Sorry but it's got to the stage where I just can't be
ars bothered to try and recall them.
Maybe someone in the spirit world makes sense of them :worried:

I can understand this - so it's grin and bear it time for lost posts :worried:
Lost a few myself but mostly I get the warning panel and am able to edit/send right away.
'Tis annoying though when you do lose a stunning piece of prose or an ingenious idea!

I know what NewportNobby means now.
On a smartphone you can't see the warning pink panel and are unaware of the issue until you check Own Posts and it isn't there.
The facility isn't very useful really. Maybe abandon it unless the system can't cope with simultaneous posts.
Can see the warning panel fine on the Blackberry
Still never lost a post either, on here or at home on IE8 WinXP SP3 :)

Blackberry screen must be enormous or you scroll up to check. On an iPhone 5 held sideways so the keyboard size expands the pink panel is out of sight. Other limitations of a Blackberry too many to justify more physical buttons than screen.
I must admit I have not had the problem since I switched to Firefox as my default browser, IE would regularly do it. :(

Neither actually  If I submit a post and another post has been made in the meantime the screen automatically scrolls up and I see the warning panel :) Screen size is approx 2" by 1.5".
Always think particular phones suit specific tasks, and for what I mainly do on this phone the Blackberry is perfect with its proper keyboard ;)

Wouldn't be so bad but it seems to be an intermittent fault, and we all know there's nowt worse than one of those ::)
Have you tried turning it off and on again?!?! :-X
Finds some wood to touch.
I've never had this problem, I'm using winXP SP3 with Firefox. Might be an idea to see if there is a common link for those having problems.
Etched Pixels gave a possible explanation when it was reported before:

Not sure I understand any of it though :worried:

I understand much of it but can only explain a little of it. :D
Basically, you should try posting via different service connectors if you can (such as via your home internet connection, your mobile phone connection, and maybe your work connection). If not all of these connections exhibit the problem then it's probably a specific provider that's causing the fault, even if unknowingly.
That explanation is either pretty accurate or entirely wrong. :-[
The issue with the warning not appearing should be easily fixable:
1) go to: http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;area=theme (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;area=theme)
2) Make sure that "Don't warn on new replies made while posting." is not ticked/selected.
The other issue about messages disappearing I unfortunately have no idea what it could be, even if it was the duplicate IP code, it would give an error along the lines "you have already posted, please wait few seconds".
The only thing I can think of to mitigate the issue would be to install a drafts mod, so that posts are saved while you write and if something happens there is a fall back. Of course this doesn't fix the issue, but only partially work around the symptoms.
:thankyousign: emanuele. I now save most of my posts to the clipboard now so I have my own workaround so I've sort of got used to it now.
I had my first 'disappearing into the ether' post today. It might be because I simply wrote and posted rather than previewing, which is what I normally do. Didn't have a clue that it hadn't posted until I revisited the thread several hours to find... nothing by me there.
Humph!
But does it really matter anyway ? How many people say " Oh I'd better just check the simultaneous posting in case I should junk mine" ?
The only real problem is not noticing and losing your own post. Haven't seen this facility on other forums. Do we need it ?
