I presume everyone has seen the weather forecast for Sunday into Monday, where winds up to 80mph and driving rain are threatened :worried:
Last I saw tonight the main area affected is the south coast but this storm could change direction.
Wherever you are, batten down the hatches and keep safe please.
That'll be fun on the way back to the depot when my truck's nearly empty then! :worried:
Paul
Just do what the yachties do - tack into the wind :D
Did something similar years ago when I drove for a local stationery company. Their trailers were 15'6" high double-deck, and coming back along the M6 from Birmingham that trailer was reaching some VERY scary angles when emerging from cuttings and bridges
Turned off and found a layby facing into the wind, parked up and told my boss I ain't moving until the wind dies down :D He was happy to pay the extra overtime rather than contemplate having to replace or repair 150 grand's worth of artic if it had gone over ;)
Paul
Maybe time to go and get some 2stroke and check the chainsaw still works. :hmmm:
Looking at the large Oak tree near to us and thinking how close bits could get to the house.

Just what I was thinking, it was bad enough crossing the Severn Bridge Sunday night/Monday morning with a double decker on :o
Just had new windows fitted to the house, should be a good test for them whilst under their warranty! :D
At worst it could be another 1987 (for those of us old enough to remember that event ) There is currently a dying tropical storm called Lorenzo floating around in the Atlantic and it's this system that could generate into Sunday night's storm.
Stay safe everyone.
Oh great - I will be running around the Brecon Beacons for 2 days over the weekend. I might take a kite!
Cheers, Mike

Sounds like you could end up accidentally hang gliding then, Mike :o

Anything to avoid having to run up the hills! :D
Coming back from the Great A4 gathering in NRM on Sunday by coach should make for an interesting trip

I'm a little bothered that every update they move the big arrow closer to Swansea 8)
Alan
Not sure what happened elsewhere but here in Cornwall we had a lot of rain from about 8-00pmlast evening then some quite strong gusts of wind from about 11-00 but nothing out of the ordinary.
I feel that we got off lightly - others may have fared a little worse .
Traffic nightmare around London - two trees down on Blackwall Tunnel approach*, QE2 bridge closed at Dartford, M11 closed Stansted to Harlow due to lorry gone over, lots of tube lines closed or truncated due to fallen trees, etc. That's just the bits I'm aware of!
Paul
*one straight through the back window of a nice shiny new BMW X6, there is some justice ;)
Seems it passed a bit further south. Cardiff got some localised flooding but looks like London got a caning. And another government infrastructure project has collapsed

Here in the 'desolate' north we just have gusty winds but the rain is coming down diagonally and it's been peeing down since the early hours of the morning. Nothing like the shots I have seen on the news regarding the south, so I hope everyone is OK in the areas affected

Been at the red wine again Mick, are we mixing this thread with the Xuron cutters thread! :-X
Strong winds yesterday but this morning just breezy and damp, that's enough about me, as for the weather we are doing just fine >:D
cheers John.

rail ?
code 55 or code 80 ???
Just testing to see who is wide awake.
Glad to see those who have passed the test
 :-[
Looks like we missed the worst of the winds in Peterborough ahthough we have had some flooding. Sun's out now and it loks quite nice.
Not so on the ECML, with no trains south due to trees down and OHL problems, etc... :(
Lost some roofing felt from the garage roof that I know of, not been outside yet to check further, it certainly blew and poured around midnight - 1 am.
A bit of sun thsi morning still windy but nowhere near as strong.
Light rain at yesterdays wedding on and off during the day, some sunshine at around 3:45. No storms here!
We have had heavy rain in Swindon but nothing out of the ordinary here, raining again now as I type this
regards
Graham :confused2: :confused2:
a bit breezy in the early hours in Bristol, the rest of the day was heavy random showers... :rain:
Hi, lost the forum for a few hours, rest of my broadband working fine, do not know what happened to it, weather in Swindon very wet strong winds but nothing out of the ordinary here

The storm caused some delays here Network Rail worked through the night with their chainsaws clearing the lines, couple of power lines down and some surface water in the station car park but all in all minimal disruption as the dawn broke and the N Gauge workmen restored normal service on the layout. :smiley-laughing:
Just caught a brief item on the news. Apparently, a tree fell in someone's garden, which they found when they opened the back door, and the tree was trying to get in! Only damage was his model rail rolling stock falling over - and he had loads!
Nothing running on Greater Angrier all day, so stayed at home. No power from 7:30 to about 13:30, so stayed at home slightly chilly and not doing much :-P
A reasonable stretch of fence down on the side the neighbours are responsible for (at least, as far as I can tell from the deeds), one slightly wobbly post on our side.
A pretty lucky escape, all told - hope everyone else is safe and well.
What did you do with no power ??
Did you have to push your trains round your layout ??
Hi Guys,
For us working overnight in north Somerset it was fairly quiet until 4pm with a sudden change in wind direction and big increase in wind speed - 65mph measured. No problems - just alot of twigs and leaves. Rain gauge said 48mm of rain at home over 24 hours - that cant be right.
Heres the (new) link to the n gauge derailment...

No, for once I was *very* close to the prototype - no trains moving!

Desperately sorry to hear of the 4 deaths sustained in the storm. On the local weather tonight they seemed to think there may be a repeat of this freakish weather at the weekend :worried:

It was quite a layout he had as well as being very well loaded up with rolling stock
cheers John.
