Title: custom loco nameplates
Post by: guest311 on August 30, 2013, 09:31:59 PM
Just heard from Steve at Railtec models that my custom loco nameplate transfers are on the way.

he's quoting around £1.50 a pair for the basic silver on a red background, with more involved ones like 'British Steel Ravenscraig' costing a bit more.

minimum order is around £4.50 plus postage, which equals three pairs of different names.

anyone interested go to the Railtec website and use the contact link to send Steve your requirement.

no connection with the firm other than a very happy repeat customer.

hopefully Steve may advertise on here soon.

cheers

alan

British Steel Ravenscraig should be available from Shawplan
Personally, cast nameplates look better than transfers

And etched look even better, especially  for splasher mounted ones for steam locos.

I agree with Mike, but where are they available from?

Narrow planet for custom. NGS and Shawplan for catalogue stock

I find it difficult to source nameplates for some of my SR locos, probably because there are no RTR or Kit versions of the locos, or when there are, then maybe only one or two names available for a particular class. I have not delved into custom plates recently so I'm not familiar with pricing which being on a pension has to be a consideration.

I find a similsr problem with sourcing transfers, no lining available for SR pre Bulleid and not much choice for lettering and numbers. As for coaches I'm doing my own artwork for vinyl or decal coach sides for Maunsell and Ironclad stock which include lining, numbering and lettering, that way it's easy to have the correct runing numbers for each coach in a set. I can fit twelve 57' coach sides on an A4 sheet, cutting them out is a PITA though, especially windows, so I'm aiming to do that with a plotter cutter.

If you have artwork for nameplates and no hurry I can hide them in otherwise waste gaps on 5thou stuff I do. That will do for all but very small ones.
