Evening all.
Has anyone see that new Audi advert for the R8 V10+?
Its brilliant, mainly because it's so simple. It starts with a shot of the R8 on a rolling road, wheels trundling along. Then it goes full throttle up through the gears (sounding superb as it does), as the camera moves up over the engine bay and then to the back of the car.
As we reach the back we see the rear end body work is missing, the reason becoming immediately obvious as the engine falls back down through the gears and blue flame spits out of exhausts which are bereft of silencer / cats etc.
As the car wheels come to a halt the camera returns to the starting position. The simple tagline (which I can't remember!) in black on white background the fades in.
This jumps straight into number two on my fav car add list, behind the all time great that is Honda's "Cog".
I believe this is to be found on Youtube still, but I happen to have a copy on DVD. Yep I am just that special folks (actually came free with Top Gear magazine one month a few years back).
All this prompted me to post on here with the question....What is your favourite car add?

The one by Honda a few years ago, The Impossible dream, still look at
on Youtube .

Even worse of Cars :smiley-laughing:
Used to love watching Pappa and Nicole in the Renault ads.
Sad I know but a bit like the old Nescafe ads.
I watch Paul Whitehouse Aviva ads on youtube. :-[
The best ever was the Toyota pickup advert. "Bugger"…. Still around on you tube. If you see it you'll love it…

There was a comedy spoof of that ad years ago , maybe Harry Enfield or Russ Abbott,
it showed a kerb crawler driving up behind a young woman in skimpy attire, she turns round and says "Pappa!" and he says "Nicole!" :D
This is the best car ad - easily ! :P
Honda - The Cog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ve4M4UsJQo#ws)
Awful car, but probably the funniest car adverts (although technically disqualified as they weren't real adverts. IIRC they were 'spec' ads done by an ad agency hoping to get new accounts).
Ford's Evil Twin Commercials - Back to Back! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLIkjWFNAKI#)
The second one is also really quite mean.
:sorrysign: I just cannot get excited about 'The Cog' or the Audi advert There was also one that was like an orchestra of car-parts - terrible!
Maybe it's because I'm a girly but I don't want to see mechanics of the car in the advert, just whether it looks good to me and gives me that feeling of exhilaration when driving it (although pot-holes in the road mean that I have had to curb my enthusiasm for sashaying through curves at speed :()
Some car adverts seem to have got too clever for their own good these days and don't convey the messages very well - e.g. whether the cars' selling points are raw speed, practicality, fun to drive etc.
P.S. and it must have a good mirror for checking my lippy :P
Here's mine:

Surely 'Alas Smith & Jones' ...
As it makes me think back to when my son was much younger it has to be the latest VW ad with the baby sleeping in the back but waking up crying at every red light as the car is one of those that turns off when you stop. The driver has to keep slowing right down to try to avoid stopping before the light turns back to green. The ad reminds you to 'just think of the fuel you're saving'.

Good to see I have stimulated some debate...
QuoteYou actually watch adverts?! :o
Erm, good point. I get annoyed at most to be honest, but its the car ones that seem to be most bearable, hence the idea to start this topic. I agree adverts are not a good thing in general though....

Ahem....I have been told an "urban myth" about the inspiration for this add campaign. MUCH ruder that even that spoof :worried:

We are not at home to stereotypes here Pengi ;)
P.S That flash mob one is genius!

lol, I can see why you would like / empathise with this thebrighton, but it just makes me wonder why the driver doesn't press the button to de-activate start-stop :D

Not really a car advert....Its the latest advert from perfume giant Dior for the fragrance called 'addict', however it features my newest favourite super Model Daphne.
She is beautiful :heart2: :heart2: :-*

Seeing as it's your thread Skyline2uk, this should be top of the list...
Brian May - Driven By You (Ford Ad) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT6jkcnaQ7c#)
The Citroen ads from a few years ago were impressive where rha car turned into a robot/transformer. The ice skating ones were genius. Shame the cars weren't as good (personal view...)
Cheers, Timmo

Yes he is, as am I ! I'm the NGF resident Mk1&2 Fiesta expert (ish !)
This was the first car advert that really stuck in my mind and it sent me scurrying off to look at 205 GTi's (didn't get one though ;)).
Peugeot 405 - Take My Breath - 1991 - UK Advert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg7_rriLSF8#)
I recall the salesman at my local Vauxhall garage letting rip about the quality of the Vauxhall ads in comparison. Then he let rip when Peugeot brought out the rather beautiful looking 406 coupe . . .

An animator I once worked with did a slightly modified version, which Citroen immediately got him to pull (however nothing is ever really removed on the internet :) )

I'm into Fords too! I have a couple of mk1 Escorts & a mk1 Cortina ( my other hobby!)
My current favourite car ad is the latest one by Skoda, advertising the Yeti.
Bloke drives in an old Favorit or Felicia for a few mods so the garage staff smash it to bits, chop the roof off and drag it out with sparks coming off it.
They then give the bloke his car back, which of course is a new Yeti, but bloke thinks its his old car made better.
The older Skoda ads were good as well such as the Skoda Fabia made out of cake and the best line a car advert has ever held.
"Its a Skoda,honest"

Going back a few years, about 30, I think!
Bert Kwouk (From the films of the "Pink Panther" Peter Sellers) and the "Veritable old boot", the VW Golf dropping from the sky and merely bouncing without the expected breaking glass etc!

Can't comment about the car but the advert is well done.
The phrase "Built by robots, driven by idiots" springs to mind for some reason!
The old ones are the best.............?
Austin Morris Cars 'The Great Range' The Two Ronnies' 1979.mp4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=265yh7UmF0w#)
Not content with producing the outstanding GS range (and numerous other outstanding vehicles) Citroen produced some brilliant adverts:
http://youtu.be/O6Kfd1Um4YI (http://youtu.be/O6Kfd1Um4YI)
Hondamentalism (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW2ZvLCQo84#ws)
This is one car advert which blew me away, love the soundtrack and abstractness of it. Honda recently have done some good adverts.
I was trying to find an MG Maestro turbo ad which was from the time when adverts bragged about power and speed (now deemed socially irresponsible) and came across this beauty:
Rover - Metro Advert - Batman and Robin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDtjCF8B92g#)
Copyright infringement or did DC comics allow this camp parody?! We won't see it's like again with the new dark and brooding Batman character.
There is another good MG advert from 1985 with Noel Edmonds in it too!
