Title: I am bored
Post by: Oldman on July 13, 2013, 11:22:24 AM
Have nothing I can do train related at the moment.
Waiting for stuff to arrive before I can do anything else. Sitting looking at the layout and thinking I could do this and that then realise it needs to be turned upside down and wiring jobs done but no bits  >:(

I find only three situations generally apply:- 1. Not having time to do anything 2. Waiting for parts 3. Waiting for money to get parts. There are rare occasion of playtime in between.  :claphappy:

You're bored?  Sitting in the hotel.  Checked out, Bus to airport not due for 5 hours. Can't go swimming, no railway stuff to do/read...  Just have to read "D-day" by Antony Beevor…

Wish I was "bored" occasionally.
If there's the slightest hint of my having nothing* to do, SWMBO makes me do something.

*in the opinion of SWMBO. Not necessarily the same as nothing.

Well, I am just coming through the end of a 3 day weekend and havn't had so much as a sniff of modelling. I've been nowhere near bored, in fact I don't know where the time went. I had a some pretty big jobs to do on my truck and I really don't mind doing the work myself. Not having to pay a garage allows me more money to spend on my hobby (trains).  It does get harder though especially on the knees as I get older.

Then I had to mow the lawn today ( 2 acres) which by the time I've done all the trimming as well takes about 2 1/2 hours.  I've spent many hours on the internet in between these things too, this site, ebay, ehattons, Rails of Sheffield etc. Throw in watching a little TV and going to the Gym. Wow, I need more hours in a day.

Bored?

Everything possible done?
Nothing else to do but die?

Nah, I can't believe that.

There are card kits that can be downloaded and printed (some are free) that will fill time.

Alternatively, scratch build something using household material - cereal packets etc.

An ideal opportunity to experiment and practice to improve modelling skills.

I found something to do in the end but had to wait till the temperature had dropped.
Anything outside at the moment I am finding a no go situation.
Am loving looking at the outside world through the windows but having to sit indoors with fans running and my inhalers by my side. Dare not risk using glues at the moment. Back to the quacks tomorrow, feeling very lethargic at the moment.

Has anyone solved the problem yet, why project draws never empty and keep filling up?

I wish my beer glass would do the same, now that would definitely kill boredom!  ;)

Working on it.

About a year and a half ago I got all the unfinished kits out and started them.

Now I'm having another run at it - this time taking the resulting giant pile of half finished kits and finishing them  :beers:

Yesterday I did another Nightstar coach from Adam's vinyls, the day before that I finished a kit built 27 I'd put aside when the Dapol one came out and today I'm building a D2130 full brake (ex ambulance coach).

At some point I'll get down the queue to the milk brake !

I decided to take a small break from current projects while Alan (Worsley Works) is currently etching some mould patterns for me. Continuously trying to re arrange the draw so it closes without trapping and breaking something was becoming tedious!

So I've made a start and dug out a sad old beaten up Minitrix A4 Gresley from the draw that I acquired a while back, and decided to give it a make over! Used Humbrol Rail match "Garter Blue" which is a shade more grey than the bright original and looks a similar match to the Dapol colour. Starting to look really good though.

Amazing how removing that one box has made a difference! ::)
