Title: Access from a hotel
Post by: BobB on June 24, 2013, 07:35:40 PM
Sometimes when I'm away from home, I access the forum from the hotel I'm staying at. Sometimes the access is denied until I have proved I'm not a robot/computer by answering a mathematical question.

I understand the need to protect the forum, its server and also us, the users. But what if I was the figure equivalent of dyslexic ?

Then you could email me.  The email address is on the front page of the website and the forum.  ;)

Annoyingly we have to have these protective measures to stop spammers etc.  It's amazing that in the time that the forum has been running that we're only had three!  *touch wood*

Paste the number problem into google, paste the response into the forum.

The goal is to prove you are cleverer than a robot not that you can do maths  :beers:

How long will it be before the spammers come up with a robot that can paste the question into Google?

If you make millions of suspicious looking searches google search starts to block you or limit you.

Anyway spammers are far cleverer. They do things like run porn sites which show a  challenge (eg the mangled words ones from yahoo) as if tit were their own. So they trade a bit of bandwidth and a few free pictures as payment to get end users to create bogus yahoo accounts for them.
